Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is an upcoming third person action-adventure survival game. The title is being developed by Panache Digital Games, a company founded by Patrice Desilets. Desilets is best known for his work as Creative Director on three of the Assassin’s Creed titles during his employment with the video game publishing company Ubisoft.
Welcome to the Jungle
While there aren’t too many details on the overall gameplay, enough information has been released to give a feel for this upcoming title. The recent trailer has given us a glimpse into the game’s setting which takes place 10 to 12 million years ago in Africa. You must play through this open world and create your own history in prehistoric times. Instead of playing as a human man on the evolutionary chain, you play as an ape descendant in a prehuman state.
Establishing yourself as the dominant species is the key objective in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Retaliate against fear and go from being the hunted to the hunter. Resource management will also play a big role for survival in the jungles of Africa. So far, no information has clearly stated if there will be any emphasis on fighting. This also leaves us guessing about the amount of conflict you will encounter with other species. In the project’s current state, it is unknown just how accurate the timeline will be to human history. The team have explored ulterior motives, including cannibalism, (though we don’t know the results of this discussion).
A recent comment made by Patrice Desilets while speaking about Ancestors had some of the gaming community in uproar. While speaking of the candidacy of the team he claimed:
“If the candidate has a dick he’s not hired. I’m not telling the story of humankind only with guys. It didn’t happen that way. You need to make babies.” – Patrice Desilets
Some of the fans awaiting Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey are now claiming that they will not buy the game due to this comment. Despite this remark, photos of the team on Facebook reveal that the majority of the team are primarily male. In this regard it seems as though he’s stating that he is no longer hiring male team members and is now only hiring females during completion of the game.
More announcements about Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey are expected to come this year. Currently, the game’s release date remains unknown.
