Counter Strike 2 (cs2) has been released and we share the known details about CSR (Counter Strike: Rating). This new system is based on a complete overhaul of the Premier game mode, and we'll tell you what to expect with CSR and Seasons.
What's it about? Over the past few weeks, the developers of Counter Strike 2 have been preparing for the upcoming release. First, testers were able to enjoy the new loadout system. With the launch of CS 2, the new matchmaking system "Counter Strike Rating" is now playable for everyone.

In this revamped approach, the game's lobby will display a complex representation of the current map pool. Here, you'll see precise statistics about your recent achievements, the latest matches on different maps. The showcased metrics include:
How It Works: One of the central features of this new matchmaking system is the introduction of the Counter-Strike Rating (CSR), serving as a comprehensive indicator of a player's skill level. The CSR of Counter Strike 2 (cs2) is divided into seven new ranks. The scale starts at 00.00, and each increase of five points marks a change in the visual rarity of the rank, similar to cosmetic items in the game. And so, the new matchmaking ranks in CS 2 are divided as follows:
Rank | Rating |
---|---|
Common (Gray) | 00.00 to 09.26 |
Uncommon (Light Blue) | 09.27 to 10.69 |
Rare (Dark Blue) | 10.70 to 19.82 |
Mythic (Purple) | 19.83 to 21.34 |
Legendary (Pink) | 21.35 to 29.29 |
Ancient (Red) | 29.30 to 30.09 |
Exceptional (Gold) | 30.10 to 35.00 |
More | unknown |
This new CSR system appears to have no upper limit. This might indicate that the developers are heading in a similar direction as the private server provider FACEIT, which offers a completely separate ranking system and locked servers from normal matchmaking.
While Gold would be considered the highest visual level, the best players might still exceed the 35-point mark—albeit without a new visual card.
Obtain First Rank: Your journey begins with the rank-in process by winning 10 matches in Premiere Matchmaking. Then Counter Strike 2 calculates your starting rank based on the following aspects:
Rank up & down, here's how: Your CSR in CS2 should actually rise or fall based on the metrics already mentioned above. At the end of each match, you will receive either -CSR or +CSR if you lose. After about 20 matches, Guided Shooter expert Kevin Willing noticed that advancing and relegating has little to do with performance. Moreover, the +CSR ranking seems to be distributed based on the existing rating.
Players at the bottom of the leaderboard who have a CSR of 4,500 receive more +CSR than a player who occupies the top position and has a CSR of 3,000. Guided author Kevin continues to verify this assumption!
