Paradark Studio has an atmospheric cyberpunk first-person shooter in the making with ExeKiller. The Poles have now shown the first gameplay footage from the wasteland, and thus bridge the gap between a trashy Chuck Norris western and the frightening Terminator 2.
Uncommon vibes in the first-person shooter genre: The Krakow-based developers from Paradark interpret cyberpunk in a particularly dry and dusty way, at least in the recently surfaced gameplay video for their ExeKiller. The first-person shooter, which is also classified as an action adventure, is set in a wasteland of deserted Western towns and 80s retrofuturism, but there’s more to the footage than that.
For example, the occasionally car-driving cowboy hero is an exact mix of Chuck Norris and Duke Nukem on Valium, while his enemies (Nordic-looking androids) are leering murderously at Terminator 2. We have summarized what else there is to say about the gameplay of ExeKiller below.
ExeKiller: An End Time Western With Freedom of Choice
Exploration in a “DeLorean”: In the roughly four-minute gameplay video above, however, nothing of the multi-choice story can be seen yet. Instead, the trailer presents the partly mobile exploration, the possible uses of gadgets, and the solid-looking gunplay against aggressive androids.
According to Paradark Studio, the semi-open game world is explored in a DeLorean-like vehicle that hovers just above the ground. In the video, hero and bounty hunter Denzel Fenix heads for an abandoned-looking motel out of interest, which he enters with a drawn gun as a precaution.
Useful multitool: To track down potential enemies, Denzel uses the radar function of his cyber walkie-talkie here, which he can apparently also use to summon his ride. Later, the display also shows the options “Hack”, “Phone” and “Message”.
At first, Denzel only stumbles upon two men killed by gunshots; after investigating several rooms with antediluvian computers and makeshift interior furnishings, however, the sniffer is attacked by a smaller group of androids.
Colt With a Digital Display
During the following battles against the artificial humans, the first thing that catches your eye is Denzel’s revolver, a classic Wild West gun with a red glowing digital display. Safely placed head shots are rewarded with bursting android heads as well as a total failure, but the hero can also kick around electronic devices in the direction of the attackers to cause a short circuit.
Lastly, Denzel executes an android with the help of an electric baton pulled from the inventory, so electricity and electronics seem to play a bigger role in ExeKiller. The “Wasteland Rider” then ends his visit to the motel with a hearty swig from a can of Hellion. A brew that surely does not bear the name of the mega-corporation Denzel works for by chance.
When will ExeKiller be released? Paradark Studio has published the first gameplay glimpse quite early, because the promising end-time shooter is not expected before 2024. Only the PC is planned as the release platform at the moment.
