Rarely has a AAA role-playing game been as superfluous as Forspoken, but there will still be DLC. Square Enix has now announced the release date for the additional content "In Tanta We Trust".
DLC despite failure: The action role-playing game Forspoken, which was released in January, is supposed to get a DLC despite mediocre player and press reviews. This is called "In Tanta We Trust" and serves as a prequel to heroine Frey's journey through the cruel land of Athia. Square Enix has now announced the release date for the paid content, which will be released on May 26th, 2023.

Forspoken tries to make its worn-out fantasy role-playing game setting more interesting by means of modern elements. For example, the heroine Frey is not a mage born in 1243, but a halfway "normal" lady from modern times, who stumbles into a kind of fantasy dimension under mysterious circumstances, and suddenly has magical abilities there.
However, this alternative story approach didn't have much effect. The mediocre press reviews currently give Forspoken a metascore of only 63 out of 100 possible points; and on Steam, the players' ratings result in the rating "Mixed". What's worse, though, is that players are running away from Forspoken. On Steam, a maximum of 655 players still cared about Frey during the last 30 days; the average was just 236.

Square Enix now wants to counteract this with the DLC "In Tanta We Trust". But the mood is rather bad in the Steam forums, and there are mixed feelings on Reddit.
In our opinion, the prequel will provide a short-lived boost in player numbers, but the future of the brand might be in bad shape. Although the developers have maintained their work since release, the obligatory content of the patch notes suggests that Square Enix might have already shelved its new IP.
