A new trailer has been released for Frostpunk, the upcoming society survival video game developed by 11 Bit Studios. This new cinematic trailer makes it clear that this game is not for the faint-hearted.
Greater Good
You play as the leader of a city, the overseer tasked with ensuring the population’s survival. You must learn to cope and construct a life with the help of steam-powered technology in a world of perpetual snow and ice. This city, that you call home, is considered to be the last habitable location for humanity; it is your job to keep it that way. Now, what matters most in Frostpunk is the “greater good”, meaning that individual persons are not of priority, rather the survival and ability of the city to remain functioning as a whole. It is your job to find resources, lead the pack, and make the tough calls for the sake of the city.
When speaking about the game, 11 Bit Studios stated that much like in their popular title, This War of Mine, decisions in Frostpunk will prove to be very challenging.
“What interests us is what society will do to survive and how it changes in the process. How survival in the end leaves us different beings. If worse, better, stronger, weaker or, last but not least, more or less humane — that is debatable.” – 11 Bit Studios
The content may be found generally disturbing by some, as it contains very mature themes that do include cannibalism. While the game is a city builder, it differs vastly from others in its execution. Frostpunk wants to truly simulate the desperation and survival of humanity in such extreme conditions.
Frostpunk does not currently have a set date, though it is expected for release in the second half of 2017.
