The horror insiders’ tip Holstin combines elements from Silent Hill and Diablo with investigative adventure. But the best part is that you can play the pixel art adventure right now on Steam.
Playtest started: Oldschool survival horror Holstin looks like a bastard of the classic Diablo games and Silent Hill. Now the first playtest has started on Steam, where you can play a certain section of this gloomy sleeper.
It is called “The Janowski House” and mainly features atmospheric environment puzzles and the so-called “2XD” rendering. According to the developers, the latter technology makes it possible to bring the dingy pixel look via dynamic lighting to life.
Holstin: Like an Isometric Silent Hill
In Holstin, you take on the role of a mustachioed sinister searching for his missing friend in a cut-off Polish town. The problem is that there is something seriously wrong with the said village of the 90s.
The description says: “The streets are full of a kind of dirty slime. The people, the buildings, the animals – everything seems to be slowly decaying from the inside out.” There are supplies and weapons to find, which you’ll use to fight off depraved monstrosities, but interaction with quirky locals also plays a role.
And there’s more: In the Janowski’s house you won’t have to defend yourself against aggressive monsters, since in the playtest version some game mechanics are separated. While the Janowski family’s place is all about environmental puzzles, as mentioned, two other sections are dedicated to the rest of the game mechanics.
- In “The Underground Tunnels” (coming in Q2 2023), it’s all about fighting and securing your own survival.
- In contrast, Jeziorne Colony (coming in the 3rd quarter) is all about non-linear exploration and completing quests. To loosen things up, there will also be fighting and shooting, whereby the difficulty level is supposed to increase considerably compared to the underground tunnels.
At the moment, only the PC is targeted as the release platform; the developers have not yet named a release date. However, we will keep it rolling and inform you on any news.
