Can we just take a moment to reflect on how brilliantly scary Outlast was? Since its release in 2013, it has been regarded as one of the best horror games ever made. Critics alike were impressed with the gameplay, mechanics and horror elements present in the game. A majority of gamers, as well as ourselves, can’t deny that Outlast was a masterfully crafted horror title. So you can expect the upcoming sequel, Outlast 2, to be even more gruesome and twisted.
Release Date
Outlast 2 will be released on April 25, 2017 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC gaming platforms. Originally the developers, Red Barrels, planned for a 2016 release, but it was unfortunately delayed. In a statement on their Facebook page, the company said they had weighed their options and felt it was best to “postpone Outlast 2’s release until Q1 of 2017.” They explained furthermore; “This is not the type of news we ever want to deliver, but we are so fully committed to the world we’ve built and to our awesome community that we could not, in good conscience, release a game whose limits haven’t been tested to the extreme.”
What’s the Plot
In Outlast 2 you play as cameraman Blake Langermann. He and his wife are investigative journalists, who go wandering the Arizona desert in search of the truth behind a nameless pregnant woman’s murder. After following a trail of clues, they end up stranded in the desert and become separated. Blake quickly learns that he is lost in a village inhabited by a cult who believe that Judgment Day is upon them.
Outlast 2 is set in the same universe as it’s previous title and serves as an indirect sequel with a completely different setting and a new cast of characters.
Spooky Scary Gameplay
Remember the camcorder that captured all those intense moments in Outlast? Well it’s back baby! Now upgraded with night vision perfect for peering into those darker areas. However, the batteries supplied do not last long and finding more can be a challenge. To make things even more stressful, the A.I has been completely redesigned. Their behaviour is the total opposite of the enemies we were terrorised by in Outlast. It seems like we’ll need a new set of strategies to outsmart this batch of crazies.
There are even more places to hide now. In addition to crawling underneath beds and slipping into cupboards, you can now also hide underwater, behind furniture and even in an empty barrel. This should make for an interesting cat and mouse playing experience.
Will There Be a Demo?
There already is! You don’t have to wait until April 25th for Outlast 2’s gameplay. There is a demo available now on Xbox One. Go give it a go and get a feel for the fear.
Will Outlast 2 Be VR Supported?
Red Barrels has no plans for VR support at the time of launch. However, they have stated on Twitter that they are not ruling that out as a possibility in the future. Maybe there’s a chance we’ll see Outlast 2 in VR on the upcoming Xbox Scorpio at a later date. Keep your fingers crossed!
What Is Outlast Trinity?
Outlast Trinity is a physical bundle pack of Outlast, Outlast: Whistleblower and Outlast 2. You can pre-order it now for $39.99.
We are excited to see how Outlast 2 is received by critics and gamers. How do you think the game will fare when it’s released? Only a week to go!
