Radical Heights is the new kid on the block in the world of Battle-Royale. Being developed by Boss Key Productions, the people behind the failed arena shooter LawBreakers, this game is competing with genre titans like Fortnite and PUBG.
That 80’s Show
Leaning more towards the more playful art style of Fortnite, the game is set in a 1980’s suburban town. The map seems like an elaborate hunger games stage with cameras watching your every move while you go around taking out the competition. Further cementing the reality TV hypothesis, is a huge dome over the map that drops various items randomly in different locations.
There are vending machines across the map that lets you buy guns and armour with cash. Cash, that you can earn by smashing cash registers and opening flashy loot boxes. The in-game characters that control the stage can actually make it rain in cash. Just stand inside the downpour and let it fill your pockets.
X-TREME Early Access
Only five months into development, this game is still in ‘X-TREME Early Access’, but does that only mean not having any textures and compensating that with a few game-breaking bugs? The way Boss Key termed it got us into thinking that there might be a lot of X-TREME sports involved in the core gameplay.
BMX riding and parkours were definitely a huge part of the current build. Maybe in the future, they might expand on that mechanic and let us shoot people while base jumping off of a building. With the animation and art style hewing towards cartoony, this might not be as far-fetched as one might think.
Let us hope they can move their ideas further and make Radical Heights a worthy competitor to the kings that exercise dominion over the genre. You can check out their steam page or visit their website for more information on the game.
