Attention Sandbox fans: A new star in the gaming sky is preparing to illuminate your everyday gaming life. Sapiens lets you build your very own prehistoric civilization by building a thriving homeland for a small tribe of humans. We’ll tell you what to expect with Sapiens and who should take a look at the sandbox title.
Sapiens’ Sandbox: Terraforming, securing resources and extensive exploration
What exactly is Sapiens? Sapiens is a sandbox simulation in which you build a small prehistoric human tribe into a large civilization in procedurally generated game worlds. To do this, you build a colony, which you gradually shape according to your wishes.

Terraforming plays just as important a role as choosing the location for your first settlement. Climate and resources determine the success or failure of your civilization. You can also change the terrain by adding or removing piles of dirt and moving trees and rocks to different locations.
In order for your Sapiens civilization to grow and prosper, you must guide each of your tribe’s people to perform specific tasks. In addition to gathering resources, this also includes constructing buildings and cultivating and producing food. In addition, people can also do research to unlock new items, technologies, and buildings.
To do this, however, you must first meet the needs of your population, including their health, the desire for a roof over their heads, and the ability to expand their families. You can customize the houses of your settlers and place each of their components yourself.
At some point, however, your civilization’s expansion will reach its limits at your chosen starting point. Then you have to send out individual settlers to explore the wider area and set up base camps where they collect new resources. They then transport these resources to your main settlement.

Who is behind Sapiens? Sapiens comes from Dave Frampton, who is developing the sandbox game on his own. Frampton has previous experience with small indie projects, including the free block shooter Block Heads, also available on Steam.
Early access and free demo: All information
What does Sapiens offer in Early Access? Because Sapiens is an Early Access game, not all planned features are included. The developer states that the Early Access version already offers many hours of gameplay, but that he intends to continuously deliver new content based on community feedback. Sapiens will remain in Early Access for several years.
Future features planned for the full version currently include:
- Support for controllers and VR.
- Dedicated multiplayer mode.
- New mechanics (boats, fishing, horses, transporting goods, interacting with other tribes through
- battles and diplomacy).
- Additional content of the medieval age (advanced technologies in the field of industry and agriculture).
Can I try Sapiens for free? If you want, you can test Sapiens as part of a free demo on Steam before buying the Early Access version. When you start the demo, the game will inform you that you can build your civilization for two in-game days before the demo ends. You can repeat this as often as you like, but a round always ends when the second in-game day is over.

Since the demo gives a good impression of what Sapiens is all about, you can easily determine whether you like the gameplay and whether buying the Early Access version is worthwhile. We can therefore recommend downloading the demo to anyone who is even remotely interested in sandbox games and civilization simulations.
When will Sapiens appear? Sapiens will be released on July 26, 2022 at 9:00 p.m. German time and will cost 24.99 euros as an Early Access title. According to the developer, the price is expected to increase with the release of the full version.
