What has been speculated for quite some time has now been officially confirmed: The Sims 5 will be launched as a Free2Play title for everyone.
Here’s the deal: For some time now, the developers of the Sims series have been hosting regular streams, the so-called “Behind The Sims Streams”. In these appearances, all important news about all Sims titles are presented. In the latest stream, there was now also some information about the latest title “Project Rene”, which is commonly referred to as The Sims 5.
The Sims 5 Appears as a Free to Play Title
Despite the stream of the developers was only 15 minutes short, it had numerous news in the luggage. The biggest reveal came from Lyndsay Pearson, Maxis’ vice president of franchise creative, who shared that Project Rene will be free for all:
When Projekt Rene is Ready, it will be available to download for free.
With this decision, Maxis wants to reduce the entry hurdle for new players. Pearson also spoke of “large-scale early access options”. A model alias Disney Dreamlight Valley may be chosen here. The successful life simulation from Gameloft has been in a paid Early Access phase for a good year now and is then also to be launched on the market as a Free2Play title.
Regular Updates for All Sims Games
Since Project Rene has to be financially self-sustaining, of course, it’s pretty certain that not only will free updates be released frequently, but optional expansion packs will also be available for purchase, as we already know from Sims 4.
Pearson also emphasizes that despite the new title, the other games like Sims Mobile or Sims 4 should not be neglected. All games should successfully coexist and be further developed.
