A big change of the new Dead Space remake to its original is the alternative ending, which you unlock via New Game+. To do this, you’ll have to collect a total of twelve markers in the different chapters.
That’s what it’s about: There is little new content in the remake of Dead Space. Besides smaller areas and side quests, as well as improvements to the UI, there is also an alternative ending. You can unlock this via the New Game+ mode, which is also new. You have to search for twelve markers in the twelve chapters. At the end, you place them at a certain point in the quarters on the Ishimura. Afterward, you can experience the second ending of Dead Space.

How to find all Markers in Dead Space
Before you can start hunting for the markers, you must have played through the game once. The coveted markers only appear when you are in a New Game+. You will find the twelve markers hidden in the first ten chapters. It is important that you have collected and placed all markers before you start the last chapter. After you have started chapter twelve, you can no longer place the markers in the designated location.

Dead Space – Marker #01
During the mission to find the board, you can also keep your eyes open for your first marker. When you get to the maintenance bay, take the elevator to the top. There you redirect the power to the maintenance room. Once you’ve done that, you can take the elevator down and look for the maintenance office, which is located in the lower right corner of the map.
In the maintenance office you will find the circuit board, but before you collect it, turn right once. On top of a shelf is the first marker, recognizable by a purple glow. Unfortunately, you can’t just collect it, first you have to destroy the shelf with melee attacks. If the marker is on the ground, you can take it without any problems.
Dead Space – Marker #02
You will find the second marker only in the second chapter. In your main mission to destroy the barricade, you have two different objectives. Here, you choose the mission in which you should search for the shock pad. This mission will take you to the main lab, which will be sealed off right after you arrive, until you defeat all the enemies. When the quarantine is over, look for the office of Dr. T. Kyne.
The office is located on the lower floor of the main lab. Once in the office, there is no sign of the second marker at first glance. This one is in a hidden room, again behind some shelves. If you use your Kinese ability here, you can move the shelves away to get behind them to the hidden room with the marker.
Dead Space – Marker #03
Once you have made it to Chapter Three alive, you must first follow the main quest. In the course of this, you will reach the engine room. For this, however, you must have already started the engines manually and solved a small puzzle with the help of your stasis module. In the engine room, look for a niche with the inscription “Power Sub-Station 003”.
If you face this inscription, you’ll have to shimmy along to the left. In a dark area to the left, you will find the third marker in the shadows.
Dead Space – Marker #04
In the next chapter, you should reactivate the elevators and then redirect power to the cannons and restart them. While redirecting the power to the cannon, you should pay attention to the fourth marker. To do this, follow the navigation line and take the elevator to the third floor.
Once there, look for the southernmost room, as shown on the map above. This is the break room where the fourth marker is hidden. Although hidden is probably an exaggeration here, as soon as you enter the room you will see it lying on the floor.
Dead Space – Marker #05
The fifth marker is one of two that you can find in the fifth chapter. After meeting Dr. Mercer and fighting his hunter, you just have to follow the navigation line of the main objective. This will lead you directly to Dr. C. Mercer’s office. Since the main mission will lead you to this very office anyway, this marker is one of the easy ones to find. In the office, it lies directly on the table.
Dead Space – Marker #06
The second marker in the fifth chapter is not as easy to find as the first one. Immediately after you collect the fifth marker, the main quest takes you further in the direction of Cryogenics. There you have to get liquid nitrogen. But before you collect it, you’ll be attacked once again by an old acquaintance, Dr. Mercer’s hunter. To get rid of him, you have to freeze him in a cryochamber.
You can collect the sixth marker either before the fight against the hunter or afterwards. It is located on the cryochamber where you freeze him. However, you can’t reach it there without any tools, just use your kinesis module here.
Dead Space – Marker #07
In the sixth chapter, you should administer an enzyme to several mutants in order to weaken their connection. Once you arrive at the sixth mutant and inject it with the enzyme, you should be standing on the top deck of the eastern annex chamber. From here you need to fly to the opposite corner of the room, the marker is hidden in a small alcove.
Dead Space – Marker #08
In the seventh chapter, there are two objectives to complete. Once you find the Admin RIG and search for the SOS transmitter, you can find the eighth marker. To do this, you will need the security clearance level 3 that you received after finding the Admin RIG. This will give you access to the room where the marker is located.
On the far left of the map there is a mineral sample room, you can enter it using your new security clearance level 3. Once inside the room, you will find the marker on one of the shelves.
Dead Space – Marker #09
The ninth marker is located in chapter eight. Here, you have to repair the communication array by solving a puzzle with your stasis module. Already here in this room is the marker you are looking for, but it is easy to miss. When you look at the screen, you need to run to the far left and look for a small gap in the wall there.
Dead Space – Marker #10
The tenth marker is only one of two that you can find in the tenth chapter. If you have to destroy the tentacles in the luxury shift bunks of the crew area, you are close to finding the tenth marker. To do this, you need to activate the doors at the protection circuit in the hallway. If you now go to the lower area and enter the luxury shift bunks there, you will find the marker standing on a table.
Dead Space – Marker #11
The eleventh marker is only a stone’s throw away from the tenth. To do this, you leave the luxury shift bunks again and move on to the western flights. The second door belongs to the chief steward’s office, and the next door is the inquiry office. You’re in the right place, if you’re in the room, the eleventh marker is on the table.
Dead Space – Marker #12
In Chapter Eleven, near the end of the main mission, the cargo hold will open for you. If you have access to it, you have to go to the southeast corner, where you will find the last marker on a shelf. By the way, if you haven’t found the PENG treasure yet, you can find it here in the room as well. When you have collected all the markers, you have to deliver them before leaving the Ishimura.
Drop Markers and unlock alternate Ending of Dead Space
If you have collected all twelve markers during the game, you are now ready to place them in the designated spot on the Ishimura. To do this, you’ll have to go back to the crew quarters, the area where the luxury shift bunks are. Once here, you need to make your way to the east wing of level 3 to find the executive quarters directly across from the luxury shift bunks.
To the left is the cabin of Captain B. Mathius. In it, you’ll find a very eye-catching altar on which you can place the markers one by one. Once you’ve done that, you can leave the Ishimura and finish the campaign normally. Just before the credits, there is now a new sequence with the alternative ending, which has already led to a lot of speculation among fans.
Here you will find the cabin of Captain B. Mathius where you have to place the markers. Are you already in the New Game+ of the Dead Space remake to collect the markers and check out the alternate ending? Let us know in the comments!
