Mortal Kombat 1 provides you with many opportunities to customize the appearance of your characters. If you’ve ever used the Shrine or checked out the Store, you may have noticed that the game has various skins and clothing items for the characters, but not all players know how to put them on. In this guide, we’re going to teach you about customization in Mortal Kombat 1.
In addition to the main characters, such as Smoke, Sub-Zero, and Kung Lao, the developers of Mortal Kombat 1 have also added kameo characters to help you in battle. You can customize them as well, so follow our instructions below.
How to Customize Characters in MK1
From the main menu, you will need to find the Kustomize button and select the Fighter option, after which you will see your character’s appearance and a list where you can choose who you want to view. You will also see the number of customization items you have unlocked, as well as Taunts and Finishers. After that, you will need to click on Photo Mode and you will see four buttons in front of you:
- Gear: Here you can choose clothing items, such as masks, or weapons, such as daggers, that your character will be carrying.
- Palettes: In this section, you can choose skins for your characters, as well as color palettes for them. By the way, if you get a color pallet for a skin you don’t have, it will be unlocked automatically.
- Taunts: Here you can choose a taunt animation for your character to tease your opponent.
- Finishers: As the name suggests, this is where you can choose animations for finishers.

How to Customize Kameos in MK1
The process of customizing kameo characters is roughly the same as customizing the main fighters. In the main menu, find the Kustomize button, but this time select Kameo. You will also see a list of characters to choose from, so click on Photo Mode. Tere you don’t have any different variations to customize, only skins and color palettes are available for kameos.
