Redfall characters have very different abilities, but which one is the best to play depends on whether you're roaming the vampire city alone or in co-op mode. Our guide will tell you all the advantages and disadvantages of all four character classes.
Which character should you play in Redfall? Although there are only four playable characters in Arkane's open world shooter Redfall, the choice here should be made carefully. After all, the abilities of "Dev", Jacob, Layla and "Remi" differ so much that it puts their usefulness in the context of the game mode.
Thus, one hero is clearly a better team player, while another was born as a lone wolf. Below you'll find out which Redfall character is best suited for which mode based on which abilities.
Devinder is described as a ghost hunter and internet celebrity, but in Redfall he makes his name as an attacker, both in single player and co-op. What makes the Brit virtually indispensable is not so much his (albeit useful) ability to inflict shrapnel damage on enemies with a bow spear and to restrict their movement. For the latter, it is enough to stand in the way of opponents, i.e. to block a path.
No, Devinder's skill of instantly petrifying vampires is particularly useful. Petrification is one of the fastest ways to permanently get rid of annoying bloodsuckers. But he also has something effective against humans, such as cultists: the Black Light skill. With its help, the Ghostbuster can stun people for a longer period of time.
The first sentence of the official character description for Jacob reads, "Jacob moves like a ghost." And that is absolutely correct. For the good Mr. Boyer is a stealth character as he is written in the book, more or less. A bit unusual may be, that he carries around a raven that allows Jacob to tag enemies (did anyone just shout Assassin's Creed?). And his sniper rifle, well, it can be summoned, interestingly enough.
Sure, the advantages of such a combination of sniper and sneak are obvious. However, at release, the raven proved to be not entirely reliable, while the sniper rifle's usefulness is limited to situations you're less likely to encounter in Redfall's co-op mode.
Besides, stealth isn't really the tool of choice in team play, only during individual missions (infiltrations) does Jacob manage to make the most of his possibilities. Thus, he's a good solo character for stealth fans, especially since he also has the ability to turn invisible.
As a result of a scientific experiment gone wrong, Layla has very strong telekinesis skills. So much so that she can simply lift her allies into the air during battles against bloodsucker armies. This makes it more difficult for Dracula's heirs to inflict damage on vampire hunters. And before all the ropes break, Layla calls her vampiric friend to her aid, who then attacks her enemies.
But why isn't Layla a good choice for single player? Being able to lift things and people sounds like a very useful thing, doesn't it? Yes, this ability is useful, but that's where the advantages of the oddly styled vampire bride end.
Because her umbrella is only useful for deflecting back attacks; it only does a little damage while it's closed. And even if she can summon a vampire helper, it doesn't do enough damage to be indispensable in combat.
Remedos is a born lifesaver on the water and accordingly works (or worked) for the Coast Guard. Her passion is also evident in combat, as she is the only character in Redfall with innate healing abilities. That she can be useful to a group of vampire hunters is obvious, but regenerative skills are naturally beneficial in the context of a solo hunt as well.
In a role-playing game, Remedos would probably combine the classes of the trapper and the cleric. Namely, she can set explosive C4 traps to tear unsuspecting vampires to pieces. She also carries effective bait targets to better handle tricky situations or to simply get the hell out.
