In Sons of The Forest you can now set up your bases without blueprints, but some mechanics, maneuvers and features are hidden, like balancing and building a level base.
What’s the problem? Do you want to build your base on a slope, or is the ground just too hilly to set bases reasonably? The idea of simply building the base on stilts quickly comes to mind, but this doesn’t work and requires too much eyeballing. But there is a trick to building your base straight on uneven terrain — you have to completely twist your way of thinking.
To build a straight base on uneven terrain or slopes
If you want to build your base on a slope or on uneven terrain in Sons of The Forest, you have to place supports. However, these often do not have the right length. Sometimes too long and after trimming too short. With a lot of luck, it might work out. Here you need a safer method and it is quite simple:
Here’s how: Start at the highest point of the hill or slope and place two logs in the ground. Make sure they are connected to the dotted line. Then chop off the two logs at the lowest point. Now you have only small stumps in the ground, just what you need. Now take two more logs and place them by the first two so that one end rests on the supports and the other hangs down to the ground:

Collect two logs again and go to the ground end of your just-placed logs. An arrow will now appear here, showing that you can place the log. Notice that the arrow is colored red at the top. This indicates that you are shortening the log, completely automatically. So place the trunk and your character will check off the new support for your base perfectly level. Repeat on the other side, connecting all sides together and laying your base.

How far does this go? You can level and straighten your base with this method until the length needed for support exceeds your normal long log.
