With Arena Breakout, Escape from Tarkov fans now have a serious alternative for mobile devices. We took a closer look at the hardcore survival shooter from the Chinese gaming giant Tencent, and reveal in this article whether it might be worth a look for you as well.
“Shoot and Loot” is the slogan of the hardcore survival shooter Arena Breakout, which was launched in China last July and, according to players, draws its inspiration from Escape from Tarkov. However, there are also major differences between the now globally available mutliplayer first-person shooter and its role model.
These start with the fact that Arena Breakout relies on a free-to-play model and is also only available for smartphones so far. However, the latter should not be a problem, because Arena Breakout promises “realistic gunplay in console quality”.
In addition, players will be able to combine a total of 700 weapon parts with the help of ten modification slots. This makes it possible to build highly customized guns. Read on to find out more about the high-risk multiplayer battles in the Dark Zone.
Arena Breakout: Surviving And Looting in the Dark Zone
What’s this about? In Arena Breakout, produced by Tencent’s subsidiary MoreFun, it’s basically about taking on the role of a soldier, getting loot from the openly designed Dark Zone, and then escaping from it with full pockets. It should go without saying that this undertaking is much more difficult than it sounds at first. You’ll be joined by at least 63 other players in 16 teams of four fighting for the same goal.
But before you start the tactical battles for the best loot, you have to meticulously configure your loadout, e.g. by means of bolt accessories or ammunition options. In fact, each of your equipment decisions will influence the outcome of the battle, and it’s not just questions of firepower or body protection that play a role.
This is because while you “dig” the zone for valuable materials and resist dynamic weather as well as enemy players (who you can rob), you also have to keep an eye on the twelve status values of your soldier. Not only will he possibly sustain severe bullet wounds, but he will also suffer from hunger or pain, which will make it even more difficult to reach the game’s goal. By the way, if you die, you lose all your equipment.
As mentioned in the beginning, your ultimate goal is to leave the Dark Zone with as much valuable loot as possible. This is also because you’ll take the captured arsenal of firearms, equipment, supplies and accessories with you into the next game round.
Gunsmithing For Purists
After all, you’ll be supported on your mission by an extensive upgrade system, the highlight of which would be the “Ultimate Gunsmithing”, according to the developer. Here you can combine more than 700 different weapon parts more or less appropriately in order to have the strongest possible guns in your hands during raids. Weapon builds can be saved, by the way, but the creation of a lead slingshot is a bit tedious at first.
Why? Because Arena Breakout’s touted “ultra-realism” in terms of weapons isn’t just empty talk. Accordingly, you can only assemble the individual weapon parts in exactly the same way as it would be possible or functional in reality. Therefore, there might be no way around an expert guide here, but it’s worth it in the end to internalize the respective weapon basics.
Currently, Arena Breakout’s hunts for loot take place on four different open maps: A large farm area, a Canadian-looking valley, the abandoned town of Northridge, and a worn-out weapons factory with military paint.
