Overwatch 2: All New Heroes & Abilities in The Sequel

With the release of Overwatch 2 on October 04, 2022, not only our familiar friends from the first part will return, but also a large hand of new characters. We show you all the new heroes in Overwatch 2, their class and abilities.

When will Overwatch 2 be released? Overwatch 2 will be released on October 04, 2022, at 3:00 p.m East Coast. Then you can once again dive into the colorful world of heroes and villains (and missed opportunities for movie adaptations) and fight for the payload. This time, you can play new heroes that expand the hero grid.

How many new heroes are coming? With the release of Overwatch 2, developer Blizzard introduces four new characters. Among them, there is a healer, a tank and two DPS damage dealers. We'll now tell you what the heroes are called and what they can do:

#1 Hero - Sojourn, DPS Hero

Sojourn has been a very popular hero in the community since the beta. She fights at a distance, but also does extreme damage at short range with her railgun. Sojourn is considered very mobile and is currently one of the strongest new heroes in Overwatch 2.

All abilities of Sojourn

• Primary Attack: Rapid-firing machine gun that gathers energy for the secondary attack while firing.
• Secondary Attack: Very powerful single shot that uses the collected energy. The more charged, the more damage.
• Ability 1 Power Slide: Slide across the ground and convert your movement energy into a high jump.
• Ability 2 Disruptor Shot: An energy shot that slows down enemies and slowly inflicts damage.
• Ultimate Overclock: The railgun charges quickly and automatically, and your shots pierce enemies.

#2 Hero - Kiriko, Healer Hero

The new hero Kiriko is one of the new healers in Overwatch 2. She casts her heal from a distance, while being able to take care of a few heroes in quick succession, and is cursedly fast and quiet while doing so. She can even run up walls in the process. Kiriko isn't suited for healing from a distance, though; she has to get very close to her friends, but her ability set makes that easier:

All of Kiriko's abilities

• Primary Attack: Kiriko throws knives at her enemies, of which she has 10.
• Secondary Attack: Kiriko has 10 healing cards, of which she throws 2 at a friend each time she attacks. After 5 times of throwing, the ability must recharge briefly.
• Ability 1 Swift Step: This ability is a teleport that moves Kiriko forward a few feet or even through walls.
• Ability 2 Protection Zuzu: Kiriko throws a grenade that frees teammates from status effects and heals them at the same time.
• Ultimate "Kitsune Rush": Teammates in the area of influence get a buff to movement speed, attack speed and gives them a cooldown reduction.

#3 Hero - Junker Queen, Support Tank

Junker Queen is a hero for brutal melee combat, which you'd rather not get too close to. With her shotgun, two-handed axe and tons of health, this new hero dominates melee combat in Overwatch 2. Junker Queen is the only hero in Overwatch 2 that heals herself over time. In addition, Junker Queen is also well suited as a support character and could find her new home in a mix of the two roles. At least, that's what her abilities lead us to believe:

All of Junker Queen's abilities

• Primary Attack: Junker Queen fires her pump-action shotgun.
• Secondary Attack: In melee, she deals damage over time and can throw the knife at enemies to draw them in.
• Ability 1 Commanding Shout: Junker Queen increases her Health by 200 HP and that of all bystanders by 100 HP. Additionally, her movement speed increases by 30%.
• Ability 2 Carnage: She swings her large axe, dealing a fair amount of damage over time.
• Ultimate Rampage: Junker Queen's Ulti lets her leap forward, wounding enemies and blocking all healing from any enemies she wounds.

#4 Hero - Unknown new Tank Hero

Unfortunately, not much is known about this new hero in Overwatch 2 yet. So far, we only know that it is supposed to be another tank and when the hero will appear. This new hero will only be introduced in the hero shooter with Season 2 of Overwatch 2. Of course, there is already speculation within the community about which character from the lore will appear in Season 2.

The hero Mauga is described in the lore texts as very large and dominant. None of these texts tell us what abilities he brings with him or what services he can provide as a tank. For that, we'll probably have to wait until Season 2, when we'll have all the new heroes of the sequel. But there will certainly be plenty more in the future.

The fourth unknown new hero in Overwatch 2 could be Mauga.
