In this article, we will tell you how to complete the Dead in the Water quest in Diablo 4. This quest will be available to you as soon as you are inside Backwater.
You need to help Tomaj burn Fresh Corpses and in the end decide whether to tell the truth or lie and what consequences your decision will have. In this guide, you will learn where to find this quest and what to do to complete it.
You can find this quest in the east of Forsaken Coast inside Backwater. To start it, you need to talk to Tomaj. You will interrupt his conversation with Szilvia in which you will learn that there are a lot of Drowned sightings and Tomaj will need to deal with it because they turn into monsters. So when you're alone, Tomaj will ask you to help him find and burn the bodies that washed up on the shore and collect extra salvage along the way. In return, he promises to help you survive in a new place.
You can find Salvaged Resources and Fresh Corpses nearby. Their approximate location will be marked on the map with a blue circle. As soon as you reach it, you will see many Drowned that will attack you. Some of them can be quite strong, such as Dreadful Raider, but most likely you will not have problems with them and you will quickly kill enough monsters to collect 10 Salvaged Resources.
After that, you will find bodies, so deal with the enemies near them and then interact with the corpse. After this, Tomaj will burn them. When you do this, you will come across a man named Ervin who survived after his ship was attacked. So when you find and burn the 3 Fresh Corpses, take Ervin with you and go back to Szilvia.

Szilvia will be surprised that Tomaj has already done the job and will start to suspect that you helped him with it. Now you'll have to decide whether to lie to her or tell her the truth. If you tell her that you helped Tomaj with the job, she will tell him to get out and ask you to meet with the boss. If you lie and say that Tomaj did it all by himself, you will save him from being fired. But it doesn't really make much of a difference because you'll still meet with the boss.
