This guide will show you how to solve the pillar puzzle from Merlin’s quest “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
This is what this quest is about: While you were completing the dark castle quest, you could see an orb that was unreachable for you at that time. With this orb, you can activate and solve the pillar puzzle of the skull rock. We will show you how to do that.

To be able to begin the quest, you need the Orb of Unity, which you have to get from the Dark Castle. Through the portal that is located at the main square, you will get to the Dark Castle. Upon entering, you will see a white square on the floor next to the first door. If you stand on this square, you will see the command “Enter”, which you execute by pressing the action button. You will then reach a ledge in the Dark Castle, where you can take the Orb of Unity. Then return to the valley.
Go to the dazzling beach at the island that lies in front of the Skull Rock. The pillar there is still shrouded in the Dark Mist of the Oblivion. By interacting with the pillar, you can place the Orb of Unity in its inventory, whereupon the Fog of Oblivion will disappear, and a few colorful symbols will appear on the ground. The quest “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” from Merlin has begun.
Now, to solve the puzzle, you have to get all the pillars from all the biomes and sort them according to the sign and color on the ground. Clockwise, starting at 12, the order is as follows:
After all the pillars are placed correctly, the skull rock will move, and you should talk to Merlin. The conversation with Merlin ends the quest for now.
