The sidequest “The Phantom Oxcart” in Dragon's Dogma 2 is quite tricky. Our guide shows you what to do.
Highlights:
As soon as you have completed the main quest “Nation of the Lambent Flame”, you can enter Bakbattahl. For the oxcart quest, you need to head to the West Vernworth Oxcart Station. Listen to the conversation between Guerrero and Dagras there to receive the quest.
At this point you can start the quest.
Once you have activated it, you must find the mysterious oxcart. To do this, travel at night to the quest marker north-east of Vernworth. There you will witness a vassal smuggling operation. Wait a little until the cart has driven away, and then grab the NPC Navil with the R2/RT button.
At this point, you can find the Oxcart.
He will give you the vassal trader's document and ask you to spare him. If you accept his bribe, you will receive 5,000 gold. If you arrest him, you will receive nothing and will be teleported away.
The next step is to show the document you received from Navil to Captain Brant. Visit the Sternenfall Inn at night and show the documents to the captain. Brant will tell you to follow the oxcart. As you won't receive any new quest markers here, you'll have to find the cart on your own. Fortunately, this is not too difficult.
Go back to the crossroads at night, where you watched the vassal handover and wait for the cart. At this point, you must take off all your equipment and weapons. In your Adam's costume, you can then approach the coachman Mansenn without arousing his suspicions. He will ask you to get on the cart, which will unlock the “Are we there yet?” trophy.
The game then sets you in a little trap, as the oxcart is attacked by a gang of goblins. You must not equip any weapons at this point either, otherwise you will be exposed. Instead, you have to defeat the goblins with your fists. Fortunately, they are squishy. The journey in the cart continues to Checkpoint Rest Town. Stay in your shape and let the guards beat you.
At the end of the journey, namely at the sealed door at the Flame Palace in Battahl, you can finally put on your equipment again, as a battle will inevitably ensue here.
As soon as you see this huge door, you should put your gear back on.
As soon as you have defeated your opponents, you will find new documents in your inventory, which you must also take to Captain Brant.
This completes the quest “The Phantom Oxcart” in Dragon's Dogma 2, and you will receive 4,000 XP, 14,500 G and the Ring of Momentum as a reward. The game also has over forty other side quests in store for you.
