Trailers and gameplay videos have already shown magical beasts, but also that you can keep them as pets in Hogwarts Legacy. Our guide will show you how you can get the first creatures for your vivarium.
Magical Beasts in the Potterverse: Already in the first film of the Harry Potter series, three magical beasts are shown: Fluffy the three-headed dog, a dead unicorn, and the baby dragon that Hagrid adopted. In the other films, these beasts are joined by the basilisk, giant spiders, a Hippogriff, and Thestrals. With the Fantastic Beasts movies, the magical beasts, of the Potterverse got the big stage for themselves. In Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll be able to keep your own magic creatures in your vivarium, which you can decorate or enlarge according to your own ideas.

How to Get Magic Beasts in Hogwarts Legacy
In order to keep magic beasts at all, you need the vivarium, as mentioned above. You can earn this by completing the main quest “The Trial of Percival Rackham”, in which you take your first lesson in Care of Magical Creatures with Professor Howin. Here you’ll learn all about Puffskeins and Kneazles, but you’ll also have your first encounter with a hippogriff. You can then visit the vivarium at any time in your personalized Room of Requirement.
If you continue with the main quests, you can go into the wilderness for the first time to catch magical creatures yourself in the “The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom” quest. By catching them, you not only have a new “pet”, but at the same time, you protect them from poachers who are hunting these creatures. During the quest “The Elf, the Nab-Sack and the Loom”, you will also learn how to catch a magical beast:
- Assign the Nab-Sack to your magic equipment and use it.
- Get close enough to the creature and press the indicated button to pull the creature into the Nab-Sack.
You can go back to your vivarium now, and release your captured creature. Feed and take care of your magical creatures regularly to get species-specific items from them, which you can then use to create other useful Hogwarts content.
