If you want to throw a weapon, equip it in your hands. Once done, you need to press the following controller button:
Once you press the button, your character will start to aim with the weapon. Once aimed, you need to press the specific button to cause your character to throw the weapon:
Sharp weapons will stick, and blunt weapons will bounce off. It is the thing you should always keep in mind while throwing weapons.

Throwing weapons is highly effective only if you have a lot of guns in the inventory. If your opportunities are limited, throwing weapons at zombies will only worsen the situation, making you vulnerable to zombies’ attacks.
If you throw a weapon, but the next slot in the weapons wheel is empty, or the gun is broken, the game will give you bare hands. Ideally, you need a weapon in each slot to throw them.
