All Armor Sets currently in Sons of the Forest (February 2024)
Currently, there are seven different armors, four of which you can craft yourself, two you collect from mutants, and the last one is hidden in a specific location on the island. The armors vary not only in their defense but also in other aspects such as camouflage or deterrence. Since you will quickly realize the need for armor due to the various enemies, we will now reveal how you can obtain them.
ATTENTION: Since Sons of the Forest has just been released in Early Access, there might be more armors in the game that we are not aware of. It is also possible that the developers will add more armors as development continues. However, we will try to keep this article up to date. |

How to Craft or Find Every Armor Set in SOTF
Leaf Armor
Even though leaf armor is by far the worst armor in the entire game, it’s worth crafting at the beginning because the resources are effortless to obtain. However, as you progress, you should start crafting better armors. Besides the somewhat rarer cloth, you only need a few leaves to make leaf armor.
Resources needed for Leaf Armor
- 10x Leaves
- 1x Cloth
Hide Armor
Hide armor is the first upgrade from leaf armor, which you probably started your journey with. It provides solid protection in comparison and also keeps you warm at low temperatures, making it the perfect exploration outfit for the mountains in the middle of the island. As expected, you’ll need to obtain leather for the Hide armor. There are various ways to do this, but the easiest is probably to sneak up on deer or elk with a strong ranged weapon and take them out with a precise hit.
You can also try hunting the slightly tougher moose, which are much larger and more resilient. However, it’s often possible to corner them and take them down with a few thrusts of a spear or arrows. For the Hide armor, you need two pieces of leather and a piece of cloth per armor piece.
Resources needed for Hide Armor
- 2x Animal Pelts
- 1x Cloth
Bone Armor
With bone armor, you’re already well protected against all sorts of enemies, with only one stronger, self-craftable armor remaining. As you might have guessed, you’ll need bones, which you can easily obtain from the various cannibals that attack you initially. Especially the dirty cannibals, who attack regularly at the beginning and run on all fours, are a good source for bones.
After defeating them, you can use an axe to chop off their arms and legs. If you place the arms and legs on a fire and wait long enough, you’ll get bones from them. Later, there are other ways to collect bones, but this is a quick way to get them at the beginning. Additionally, you’ll need tape, which can be found everywhere, and ropes, usually found in the cannibals’ villages.
Resources needed for Bone Armor
- 4x Bones
- 1x Tape
- 1x Rope
Tech Armor
Tech armor is by far the strongest armor in the game. Unfortunately, you also need really expensive materials as well as access to a 3D printer. Since you always need 10x armor pieces, a complete set of tech armor costs you a small fortune in resources: cables, circuit boards, tape, and batteries are just the collectible items you need for a piece of tech armor. You can find them in some places on the map, but especially in bunkers.
Additionally, you need a piece of Tech Mesh, which you cannot simply find on the island; you must craft it with a 3D printer. For this, you need to have the corresponding amount of resin and already have access to the printer. For 250 ML Printer Resin, you get one piece of Tech Mesh. As you might notice, tech armor costs you a lot of expensive resources, which is why it’s not necessarily the best armor.
Resources needed for Tech Armor
- x1 Tech Mesh (250ml Printer Resin)
- x1 Tape
- x1 Batteries
- x1 Wire
- x1 Circuit Board

Creepy Armor
Throughout the game, you will always have plenty of creepy armor in stock. It’s one of the two sets that you collect and don’t have to craft. Creepy armor is made from the skin of certain mutants found underground. Essentially, all you have to do is skin the various mutants you encounter along your way using a knife. The mutants from which you obtain the armor are Fingers and Puffy.
Creepy armor protects you nearly as well from damage as the much harder-to-craft Tech Armor. Wearing a full set of creepy armor, you’ll look just like a mutant, but mutants and cannibals will still attack you. Cannibals can also wear this armor set.
Resources needed for Creepy Armor
- x1 Mutant Skin
- x1 Knife
Golden Armor
The last armor currently in the game is the golden armor. Like the creepy armor, you have to find it and cannot craft it yourself. However, you don’t need to collect individual parts of the armor over and over again; once you own the armor, you never need to collect it once more. It never loses durability and is always a complete set, unlike all other armors, which require you to wear multiple armor pieces.
Contrary to what you might think, the armor is not the strongest in the game; that title still belongs to the Tech Armor. The golden armor only minimally protects you from damage. In return, it never breaks and therefore doesn’t need to be replaced. Originally, the armor isn’t meant for protection, but to grant you access to another area in Sons of the Forest. We’ve covered how to obtain it in a guide: How to get the Golden Mask & Armor.
Are you satisfied with the selection of armor in Sons of the Forest, or would you like to see more different types of armor? We could imagine armor made of wood or bark, but also modern armor worn by the soldiers in the first cutscene. Please let us know what you think in the comments!
