Rick and Michonne are returning to The Walking Dead in their own spin-off, but what it’s called and when it’s coming we didn’t know — until now. Working title and start date for The Ones Who Live are known.
What happened? Pretty much every fan of The Walking Dead is currently waiting for the spin-off to former series lead Rick Grimes and wife Michonne. At San Diego ComicCon, we now got the final name of the show as well as a start date. We reveal everything important about the upcoming new show in the TWD universe now.
What we know so far about The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
During San Diego Comic Con (SDCC for short), broadcaster AMC released several new trailers for the upcoming spin-off series of The Walking Dead. I was most excited to see a teaser for Rick and Michonne’s series, whose name has now been revealed:
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, is the show’s just-off-the-tongue name. And if we believe the trailer literally, we are not directly following the reunion of the two lead characters Rick and Michonne here. Instead, the series starts a bit further ahead and deals with, among other things:
- Michonne’s long-running quest to find Rick.
- The people she has encountered during her journey.
- Reasons why she never returned to her old community
- The events surrounding Rick Grimes, during his early days at CRM.
What happened to Rick? The trailer paints a picture of Rick being part of the CRM. In the main show’s finale, however, we see that he escapes from the CRM and not for the first time. So perhaps Rick was initially sold on the idea of the CRM and only later turned against it? Was he simply not allowed to contact his family, but was at the CRM voluntarily?
So far I’ve thought such a plot impossible, but after my experience with Fear The Walking Dead, my guess above is among the more likely. I’m intentionally not discussing the meant scene to avoid spoilers. For those who want to know what I mean, click the link!
When is launch for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (Rick & Michonne)?
The teaser trailer for The Walking Dead spin-off reveals that Rick and Michonne will return in 2024. The most likely scenario is a series start in the fall of 2024:
Coming to that time frame, assuming that some series launches overlap with the endings of other spin-offs, should The Ones Who Live.
- Daryl Dixon – September 10, 2023.
- Fear The Walking Dead season 8b – No start date.
- Dead City – No start date
So Daryl Dixon fills the fall, Fear TWD then the spring of 2024, and Rick and Michonne launch back onto zombie fans’ flicker boxes in the summer or fall!
