In a few days, we will finally be able to get our hands on the long-awaited A-RPG Hogwarts Legacy. One question that fans of the Harry Potter universe are likely to ask concerns the game environment: How different are the Hogwarts castles in Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter films?
What’s it all about? What does Hogwarts in Hogwarts Legacy look like, and how different is it from Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies? German YouTuber dagilp_lbh, who is rebuilding Hogwarts in detail in Minecraft and thus knows the material very well, has been thinking about this topic. We summarize what he found out.
Hogwarts: How do the Versions of the Wizarding School in the Game and Movie Differ?
Because Hogwarts has changed several times in the Harry Potter films and new areas like the Astronomy Tower were added later, there are different versions of Hogwarts even in the movies – depending on the needs of the film team.
But what does Hogwarts look like in the game? According to dagilp_lbh, who bases his analysis on a blueprint of Hogwarts from the game’s official artbook, the wizarding school in the game most closely resembles the one from the sixth Harry Potter film:
- There’s a clock tower, including a hospital wing.
- The Astronomy Tower is also present in the game.
- The Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom is located in a separate tower west of the Astronomy Tower.
- The bridge to the mainland is also present in Hogwarts Legacy.
However, there are also concrete differences between game and movie Hogwarts:
- Behind the twin clock towers are not the greenhouses as in the movie, but a kind of park.
In the game, the greenhouses are located exclusively by the Ravenclaw tower on the wall of Hogwarts. Also, instead of several smaller greenhouses, there is only one large greenhouse. - The gamekeeper’s (Hagrid’s) hut is located north of the greenhouses, as in the first two Harry Potter films. However, there is a second hut on the spot where Hagrid’s dwelling stands from the third Harry Potter film.
- The Ravenclaw tower is much more detailed than in the films.
- Some structures and pathways are different or more detailed compared to the movies.
Overall, it seems like the Hogwarts from Hogwarts Legacy gives us quite a bit to discover and explore. We’re excited to see how the finished game feels in the end.
