The medieval strategy game Manor Lords is considered by many to be the hope for an entire genre, but in order for it to survive in the long run, it needs mod support: so many users have asked, and now there is an answer.
What's going on? Ever since the first playable demo of Manor Lords was released in October 2022, fans have been asking about modding. Now the solo developer of Slavic Games has provided a concrete answer. If and when Manor Lords will get mod support, we'll tell you now.
Via Steam, the official Discord and twitter.com, fans of Manor Lords want to know if there will be mod support for the release of the build-up game. After often giving only vague answers, the developer now explains himself precisely in a reply tweet. The user @KillerLemmy asked what Slavic Games' view on community-created content is and whether Manor Lords will be open for it. He was mainly concerned with the terrain:
Will we be able to create maps in UE4 and import them for example?
The developer responds that it is difficult to directly support mod support in Unreal Engine 4. Epic Games' engine doesn't seem to be designed for that. However, he also states that he believes in the community and that they will surely find a way to make modding in Manor Lords possible. Guided.news followed up and the developer replied:
I have no idea what the ue4 modders are capable of. Someone supposedly tried to mod in saves for the demo, he failed in the end but I would say even trying should be impossible but there you go.
If we take a look at a thread in the Steam forum, we find an older statement from Slavic Magic on the topic. Here a user asked directly if the support exists and the developer answers:
[...] mod support, it will come later too.
In conclusion, are mods coming? So in 2021, the developer was still in good spirits that mods would one day be part of Manor Lords. Now it sounds a bit more pessimistic than before. Also, Slavic Magic apparently doesn't want to dedicate itself to official tools that the community works with. So a connection to the Steam Workshop seems to be out of the question for Manor Lords. Should there be mods, what kind of new content would you be most excited about? Vote:
