Grinding Gear Games, the creators of Path of Exile, have a knack for keeping the last word in the marketing battle with Blizzard for the best ARPG. So now, just a week after the release of Diablo 4, there was the first short gameplay trailer of Path of Exile 2 - and it already convinces the fans.
What it's about: GGG has released a short, but worth seeing gameplay trailer for Path of Exile 2 as part of the Summer Game Fest. Both graphically and in terms of the atmosphere in the game, it seems to be clearly on par with Diablo 4. As far as gameplay content is concerned, it has long been clear to PoE players that Path of Exile 2 will offer much more variety, depth, and complexity than Diablo 4. The huge marketing budget that Blizzard has spent on the new Diablo part, as well as the marketing strategy itself, should also push the success of PoE 2.
The approximately one-minute trailer shows a character of the witch class fighting his way through monster hordes with various skills, some of which are from Path of Exile 1, but some of which are completely new. At the end, a boss breaks through a building wall and the official logo for Path of Exile 2 is presented.
Even though the trailer is very short, in our eyes, it already reveals several things that should prove that Path of Exile 2 will be a serious competitor for Diablo 4:
However, GGG seems to do an excellent job, not only technically and conceptually. For years, the team around Chris Wilson has proven that they can reliably and regularly provide Path of Exile with new content. In light of Diablo 3's comparatively monotonous Seasons, it remains to be seen whether Blizzard can deliver consistently compelling content for Diablo 4.
Blizzard's decision to run multiple beta phases, as well as the vast advertising campaign for Diablo 4, have also been bizarrely beneficial for competitor Path of Exile. Because players who were up for a good ARPG after a beta phase, but couldn't continue playing Diablo, looked around for viable alternatives. This has benefited Path of Exile tremendously, making the current Path of Exile League “Crucible” the most successful ever. Logically, these players are now also watching the development around Path of Exile 2.
Those who know Chris Wilson and his team know that we will probably get a lot of new news at the upcoming ExileCon on July 28th and 29th of this year. It is already known that, among other things, the date for the start of the beta for Path of Exile 2, but also the new expansion Path of Exile 3.22 will be presented there. There will also be news about Path of Exile Mobile.
