Since the start of 2018 PUBG Corporation has been promising a roadmap for the battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Well, we are now two months later and the roadmap got shared, promising a lot of new content.

’This year we plan to build on that foundation and really start to polish our features, squash the remaining bugs and expand the game even further.’’

New vehicles, maps and weapons

From now on every two months will bring a major content update. This will either bring new content to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or bring changes to a specific system. Between the major updates there will be smaller ones to optimize the game. Also, with the roadmap a new Experimental Test Server will open up, to send feedback faster to the developers.

Firstly, a new map is on its way to PUBG, this time it’s a small 4x4km island map which should make the matches more excited and shorter. However, the map will get added to the Experimental Test Server before it hits the main servers. So, in April you will be able to try it out. Besides that, we can also expect a new 8x8km map later this year, what it will look like is yet to be showed. The same counts for the upcoming new modes, which just got mentioned between the lines without any specific information.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

The smaller map should give some exciting matches, as you will be much closer to each other.

Secondly, what’s the point of a new map if you can’t travel around with some new vehicles and shoot other players with new weapons. Well, the second half of the year will bring new vehicles and weapons to the game. So far, a picture of an upcoming weapon got shared with the name: Rifle 7.62.

Thirdly, later this year an emote system will be added. By the time it gets added to the Experimental servers there should be a range of emotes available to use during the matches. However, thats not all as they are adding more parachute and weapon skins. Because of this, there should be more ways to customize the character to your personal preferences.

The new Emote system allows you to show your emotions in-game.

Time for Optimization

Between the smaller optimization and bug fixes some bigger optimisation updates are on its way. Firstly the TPP and FPP ( third person and first person) animation system will get a complete overhaul to make it work even smoother. This will include character movement and animations such as getting into a vehicle. As well as an overhaul for the parachute, armed and unarmed melee combat system. These overhauls should make the animations more responsive and polish their overall look.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

2018 also brings up a changing in the rendering of buildings.

The upcoming sound optimization is divided into the first and second half of 2018. As first there will be an increase detail of vehicles and weapons sounds. The second part will focus on changing the sounds the players make, to collide with what they are wearing. In Addition they also want to add sounds to the different ways of breathing. For example when the player is running or holding its breath. In addition to these more realistic systems the limb and vehicle bullet penetration will get tested on the Experimental server to add more depth to the ballistic system.

On Conclusion, 2018 will be a good year for the player if everything that is mentioned will make it into the game. It might even become the year where PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is able to redeem itself for the glitches and bugs in the past.
