All recruitable characters of Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) can enrich your party in their own way. Here, who these companions are and where to find them.
Here’s the deal: As you travel through the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll encounter many recruitable characters, but “only” 10 of them can actually be parked in your camp and swapped in at will. We will introduce these companions here in words and pictures, provide information about their abilities, and reveal their exact locations.
These Are All Recruitable Characters of Baldur’s Gate 3
Astarion (High Elf, Rogue)
Base stats for Astarion
- Strength: 8
- Dexterity: 17
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 13
- Wisdom: 13
- Charisma: 10
- Native abilities: Acrobatics, deception, stealth, perception, persuasion, history, sleight of hand
- Location: Act 1, Ravaged Beach, X: 165, Y: 287
The bottle-blond vampire Astarion has been a bloodsucker for centuries. Most of that time he had to spend in the darkness of the night, but now he is free from his former, merciless master.
Among the group of heroes, the later announcement about Astarion’s nature does not meet with much approval, so he has to rely on the player’s support. His rogue-like abilities pay off throughout the game, both in and out of Baldur’s Gate 3 battles.
Gale (Human, Mage)
Base stats for Gale
- Strength: 9
- Dexterity: 14
- Constitution: 15
- Intelligence: 16
- Wisdom: 11
- Charisma: 13
- Native abilities: Arcane, Investigation, Insight, History
- Location: Act 1, east of the Mind Flayer ship, X: 223, Y: 325
What to make of a mage who needs to be helpfully pulled out of a rock? And what was Gale doing in a rock in the first place? What is certain is that the spell-casting narcissist once used forbidden Netheril magic, breaking a delicate boundary.
But Gale is trying to win back the favor of his goddess by putting a stop to corruption in the world. Incidentally, what the rock thing may not suggest is that Gale is a truly powerful mage who is as indispensable in battle as his character class requires him to be.
Halsin (Wood Elf, Druid)
Base stats for Halsin
- Strength: 10
- Dexterity: 14
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 8
- Wisdom: 17
- Charisma: 12
- Native abilities: Athletics, Stealth, Nature, Animal handling, Perception, Survival
- Location: Act 1, Goblin Camp, northwest of the Blighted Village, X: 400 Y: -28
He is the first druid of the Druid Grove, but is missing at the beginning of the story. Halsin was part of Aradin’s expedition and has been captured by goblins. Freeing him is one of the player’s tasks.
Jaheira (Half-Highelf, Druid)
Base stats for Jaheira
- Strength: 10
- Dexterity: 14
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 8
- Wisdom: 17
- Charisma: 12
- Native abilities: ?
- Location: Act 2, Baldur’s Gate, in the south of the lower town, X: -98; Y: -148
Jaheira is a recurring companion; Jaheira has made appearances in Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2. She is both a druid and a fighter, and apparently blessed with excellent genes, Baldur’s Gate 3 is set 100 years after the prequel, after all.
Karlach (Asmodeus Tiefling, Barbarian)
Base stats for Karlach
- Strength: 17
- Dexterity: 13
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 11
- Wisdom: 12
- Charisma: 8
- Native abilities: ?
- Location: Act 1, north of the Blighted Village, Risen Road, X: 111, Y: 503
Karlach is what you might call a kind-hearted barbarian. She is an Asmodeus tiefling and formerly enslaved soldier, who unsurprisingly also has the game background of a soldier.
So what could be more dear to her heart than doing good deeds for the oppressed and generally for the good of all the creatures of the world. As a barbarian, she never shows weakness and solves her problems, well, just like a true full-blooded fighter.
Lae’zel (Githyanki, Fighter)
Base stats for Lae’zel
- Strength: 17
- Dexterity: 13
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 11
- Wisdom: 12
- Charisma: 8
- Native abilities: Acrobatics, Arcane, Athletics, Intimidation, Survival
- Location: Act 1, west of the Mind Flayer ship, X: 219, Y: 371
Lae’zel was also captured by the Mind Flayers and accordingly carries a larva of her captors. A mighty warrior, she has virtually dedicated her life to the destruction of the Mind Flayers, but has yet to prove herself worthy of wielding the silver sword of a Kith’rak.
It is therefore particularly dishonorable for the rough-and-ready Lae’zel to have to return to her own in hopes of receiving help in removing the larva.
Minsc (Human, Ranger)
Base stats for Minsc
- Strength: 12
- Dexterity: 17
- Constitution: 13
- Intelligence: 8
- Wisdom: 15
- Charisma: 10
- Native abilities: ?
- Location: Act 2, Abandoned Cistern, X: -203, Y: 867
This Rashemaar warrior is described as a good-natured but lazy warrior who is said to have had numerous adventures on the Sword Coast. He is known to hold conversations with a “miniature giant hamster” from space, Boo. Whether Boo really exists would be up for proof.
Minthara (Drow, Paladin)
Base stats for Minthara
- Strength: 17
- Dexterity: 12
- Constitution: 13
- Intelligence: 8
- Wisdom: 10
- Charisma: 15
- Native abilities: Athletics, Insight, Intimidation, Nature, Dealing with animals, Persuasion, Religion
- Location: Act 1, Goblin Camp, northwest of the Blighted Village, X: 327 Y: 41 (Chamber)
Minthara is a ruthless drow who is preparing an attack on the druid grove. As such, she is also a potential boss opponent.
Shadowheart (Half-Highelf, Cleric)
Base stats for Shadowheart
- Strength: 8
- Dexterity: 17
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 13
- Wisdom: 13
- Charisma: 10
- Native abilities: Dexterity, Stealth, Insight, Religion
- Location: Act 1, Mind Flayer capsule in ship, then Ravaged Beach, X: 274, Y:220
Why Shadowheart is so named is related to her early career as a half-high elf. Thus, she grew up on the streets before joining the monastery of the Lady of the Night, where she found her purpose in life.
How meaningful her resulting “holy” suicide mission actually is, is debatable. In any case, her presence in the group serves the purpose of sowing interference and tension, for Shadowheart does not get along with Lae’zel – to put it kindly.
Wyll (Human, Warlock)
Base stats for Wyll
- Strength: 9
- Dexterity: 13
- Constitution: 15
- Intelligence: 14
- Wisdom: 11
- Charisma: 16
- Native abilities: Arcane Lore, Intimidation, Persuasion, History
- Location: Act 1, Druid Grove, X: ?, Y: ?
Wyll has made a name for himself as the “Blade of Frontiers” and never tires of emphasizing it. Behind this glorious name lies a human nobleman who places a great deal of importance on good relations.
But Wyll also harbors a dark secret, which is matched by the fact that he draws his considerable power from a demonic patron. In addition, Wyll trains children in the martial arts.
