The quest Search the Cellar in Baldur's Gate 3 puts you in front of an ornate mirror. We explain how you have to answer the questions to get the Book of the Necromancer.
Here's what it's all about: Baldur's Gate 3 is full of secrets and side quests that you must solve to unlock powerful items and abilities. One quest in Act 1 tells you to search the cellar beneath the alchemist's hut in the ruined village.
There you will find the powerful Necromancer's Book, The Necromancy of Thay. Before you reach the chamber with the spellbook, however, you will find yourself in front of an ornate mirror that will only allow you to enter if you answer its questions correctly. Our guide will show you how to gain access to the hidden chamber.
Where is the chamber's location? In Baldur's Gate 3, in Act 1, there is a destroyed village crawling with goblins. Kill them or sneak past them. Among the buildings is the hut of an alchemist who holds some dark secrets. To get his book, The Necromancy of Thay, you'll have to go deep underneath his hut.
Triple descent: First you go through the hatch into the cellar under the alchemist's hut.
Search the basement for a fancy wall unit. There are boxes to the left of it. Throw them to the side. Behind them a lever will reveal itself, which you have to use. Now the cabinet will move to the side and reveal a secret passage. In the vault behind it you will find the Ornate Mirror.
In the mirror, a face speaks to you as a guardian for the chamber beyond, wanting to prevent enemies of its master from sneaking in. So you have to convince him that you are an ally by answering three questions.
Answer it's questions in Baldur's Gate 3 as follows:
After that, the ornate mirror opens the passage and you can enter the secret chamber. The book The Necromancy of Thay can also be found here. Beware of traps, though! It helps to have characters with high Perception scores in your party to spot the traps.
