How to beat Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3? Well, it’s a major challenge even for heroes above the tenth level, however, this guide explains how to give the mighty vampire lord a good thrashing.
Here’s the deal: By trying to beat Cazador, you’ve set yourself up for a bit of a challenge in your next round of Baldur’s Gate 3. After all, Cazador Szarr is not only Astarion’s former mentor, but also a very powerful vampire lord and power-hungry scumbag.
The fight against Cazador in the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3 is practically the climax of Astarion’s quest “A Pale Elf”, because here the future of your brother in arms will be decided. We’ve taken a closer look at the epic skirmish and will tell you the best battle tactics against the undead oppressor below.
This is How You Beat Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3
As soon as your vampire buddy Astarion has sufficiently verbally pissed off his ex-master Cazador, the latter banishes his offspring to a ritual place to absorb him, so to speak. Thereupon, the heroes all around pull out their weapons to assist Astarion in his plight.
One of the biggest problems of this encounter is that Cazador Szarr’s quick dodges make him hard to deal with physically. Often, you and your party will end up getting slaughtered by Cazador’s minions. They also have the added difficulty of having high resistances and can slow you down a lot during the fight against Cazador.
Conversely, you won’t gain any advantage by summoning numerous compagnons and others, because this won’t stop Cazador from continuing his attacks on the heroes and also from landing successfully. So how can such a boss be put on the butt in the first place?
1. Grab the “Undead Rapier”
Carefully make your way to the lowest level and there near the elevator you came in on. There you will find a treasure chest, which – beware – has been equipped with traps. Otherwise, proceed as usual and let Astarion break open the chest. The rapier inside is a weapon specially designed to fight the undead. If you equip Astarion with it, the enemies of Szarr Castle won’t have much to laugh about.
2. Astarion Can Fight Alongside You
After all, when you first confront Cazador, you don’t have to do so with Astarion. Instead, leave the little vampire at one of the stairs leading down to the battlefield. This way Astarion will not even be banished to the mentioned ritual place. And from a distance, he can do a lot of damage to his hated master by performing ranged attacks from the sneak position.
3. Use the Arena in the Fight Against Cazador
Surely you have already noticed the not insignificant depths surrounding the battle arena. No, you can’t throw Cazador down there. If you try to do so, the head vampire will only show you his annoyingly good evasive maneuvers. Anyway, you can do that with his servants, the ghouls and werewolves.
Of course, the best choice for this is a fighter or barbarian, because these classes have enough power as well as suitable skills to send opponents over the edge. Position your melee fighter close to the abyss and keep an eye on your chances.
There’s a minion elsewhere near the abyss? Execute a thrust attack from a distance. And if one of the tormentors is near you, sure: just push them off the platform. By doing so, you save valuable moves. Because, as I said, the high resistances of Cazador’s foot vultures are a serious hindrance in this skirmish.
4. Try Magic Against Cazador
When the experienced role-player sees Cazador doing the most amazing things with his staff, his brain automatically notes: “Watch out, powerful mage”. But in Cazador’s case, the experience of dealing with guys like that only applies to a limited extent. Of course, he’s a gifted spellcaster, but he actually has a problem with magical attacks on him.
By the way, this also applies to his transformed form, which otherwise causes problems for heroes. Accordingly, it almost doesn’t matter what weapons your characters carry; just let them attack Cazador magically and you’ll see them suddenly miraculously unleash their full damage potential. As for spells, anything that produces sunlight works well here.
5. Make Use of Shadowheart’s Abilities
As a cleric, Shadowheart is predestined to fight the undead. Have her summon Spirit Guards, which deal 3-24 points of Radiant or 3-24 points of Necrotic damage to nearby enemies. It’s also nice that it halves the movement speed of nearby minions. In general,

That’s odd, I just push Cazador to the chasm moments ago 🤔. My Bard College of Swords did that to Balthazar and now Cazador.
