Defeating Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a significant challenge. With over 100 hours of gameplay experience, our editor Alex reveals how to beat this powerful vampire lord.
In this guide, you will learn:
Taking on Cazador in Baldur’s Gate 3 is no small feat. After all, Cazador Szarr is not only Astarion's former mentor but also a very powerful vampire lord and a power-hungry scoundrel.
The fight against Cazador in Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 is essentially the climax of Astarion's quest "A Pale Elf," as it decides the future of your comrade-in-arms. We’ve delved into this epic skirmish and will reveal the best combat tactics against this undead oppressor.
As soon as your vampire buddy Astarion has sufficiently insulted his ex-master Cazador, the latter binds his offspring to a ritual site to absorb him. Then, the heroes around draw their weapons to assist Astarion in his plight.
One of the biggest problems in this encounter is that Cazador Szarr, due to his quick evasion maneuvers, is hardly physically vulnerable. Often, you and your party end up being slaughtered by Cazador's minions. These minions pose a difficulty as they have high resistances and can significantly delay you during the fight against Cazador.
Conversely, summoning numerous companions and others doesn't give you an advantage, as Cazador continues to focus his attacks on the heroes and land them successfully. So, how do you take down such a boss?
Go carefully to the lowest level near the elevator you used to enter. There you will find a treasure chest, which is rigged with traps. Let Astarion open the chest. Inside is a rapier effective against undead. Equipping Astarion with it makes the enemies of Castle Szarr less formidable.
When you first confront Cazador, you don’t have to do it with Astarion. Instead, leave the little vampire at one of the stairs leading down to the battlefield. Out of sight, out of mind, Astarion won't be bound to the ritual site and can deal significant damage to his hated master from a distance using ranged attacks from stealth.
Despite Cazador being a powerful wizard, he actually struggles against magical attacks. This applies to his transformed state too. Almost any weapon your characters carry can be effective against Cazador when they use magical attacks, especially those that produce sunlight.
As a cleric, Shadowheart is ideally suited for fighting the undead. Let her summon Spirit Guardians that inflict radiant or necrotic damage on nearby enemies and halve the movement speed of nearby minions.
These tactics should give you a significant advantage in the battle against Cazador and help you secure victory in this challenging encounter.

That's odd, I just push Cazador to the chasm moments ago 🤔. My Bard College of Swords did that to Balthazar and now Cazador.
