If you make it to the Underdark in the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3, you will have the opportunity to find the fish people, that live there and become their new god. This guide will show you where to find the fish people and how to become their god.
About this guide: I’ve played through the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3 several times, but wasn’t able to spot the fish people on my first try. This guide will help you find the Kuo Toa and will show you how you can become their god.
How to Find the Fish People, Kuo-Toa in the Underdark of Baldur’s Gate 3
To find the fish people, you have to find and take one of the various paths that lead into the Underdark:
- Waukeens Rest: Through the Zhentirem camp.
- Goblin Camp: Through the chambers of Minthara.
- Spider Cave: Through the hole where you found the spider matriarch.
If you have already explored the map of the Underdark, you can teleport to the beach where you found the Duergar camp. From there, you can get easily to the entrance to the cave of the fish people, which we have marked on the map (coordinates: X: 72, Y: -241).
Once you’ve made your way to the above-mentioned coordinates, you will find yourself in front of a ravine that you can cross by jumping over directly. Alternatively, you can cross over via the mushrooms that are on the rock wall. Before doing so, however, you should shoot at the orange mushrooms to let them explode. Once on the other side, climb down the rock wall that will take you to the “Rotten Cave”.
Once in the cave, take the path that leads off to the left and then walk straight ahead to get to the fish people. Talk to Pooldripp the Zealous, the only fish-man who is wearing some fish as a hat. This starts a dialogue sequence.
How to Become the God of the Fish People, Kuo-Toa in BG3
The sequence shows how the fish people worship their god BOOOAL, who then appears. Pooldripp the Zealous then turns to you and tells you that you should be sacrificed to BOOOAL. A choice opens up as to how you can respond, where you choose the following:
- [Investigation] Get your bearings. What have you stumbled in on?
If you have successfully rolled a 15, you will become aware that the blade stuck in the sacrificed Kuo-Tua belongs to a common red cap, a bloodthirsty fairy creature. Then choose this reaction:
- [Appearance] Red caps love violence. Bait him with an exaggerated story about bloody fights.
The fairy creature will jump at it and thus expose itself. It will then try to lure you in with the promise of getting power. Choose the following to get rid of the red cap without the Kuo-Toa attacking you:
- 2. I’ll just kill you and claim it for myself.
Defeat BOOOAL and talk to Pooldripp the Zealous in the following. He then praises you as the new god MAHKLOOMPAH. As a new god, you can then decide what to do with the fish people.
Note from the author: I decided to let the Kuo-Toa raise an army for me. To what extent my decision will affect the future game, I can’t say yet. However, this could be helpful since you encounter the Kuo-Tuas one more time in the second act.
