If you want to keep a cute owlbear cub as a pet in your camp in Baldur's Gate 3, you can easily do so with the help of this guide.

Find out in this guide:

  • Where to find the Owlbear Cub.
  • How to lure the owl bear cub into your camp.

Finding the Owlbear Cub in Baldur's Gate 3

You will encounter the Owlbear Cub twice before you can welcome it into your camp as a companion. Your first encounter will take place in a cave, the Owlbear Nest. The Owlbear Nest is located west of the Emerald Grove next to a bridge. You can find the exact location on the map below.

EN BG3 Owlbear Nest

You will find the Owlbear Cub in the Owlbear Nest.

Inside the cave, you will meet the owlbear cub's mother. You can either defeat her in battle or retreat without harming her. We attacked the mother for the sake of filthy lucre and then looted her. We left the cub alive. If you want to bring it into your camp as your companion, you must interact with it after the battle against the mother and spare it. The cub will now eat its mother.

The second encounter with the cub takes place in the goblin camp, near the Blighted Village. Here you will meet a goblin called Krolla, next to whom the owlbear cub is standing. If you can't find Krolla, talk to the juggler on the stage until Krolla appears and chases him away. Talk to Krolla, who will tell you about a game called “Chicken Chase”. Get yourself involved in a game and bet a small amount of gold on your victory.

Play Chicken Chase and Lure the Owlbear Cub

Once the hunt for the “chicken” begins, you must interact with the owlbear cub and select the option to kneel and not harm him (requires a wisdom roll of 10). On the next selection, you must choose to lure the cub to the post (requires a Wisdom roll of 15). Once you have done this, the hunt is over. Interact with the cub again and select to lure it again. Then talk to Krolla and ask her for your prize. A little persuasion is required here (choose: “You'll be returning my coins — and all of yours”). Now you need to talk to Krolla one last time and claim the owl cub.

EN BG3 Krolla

Speak with Krolla to get your Coins and the cub.

There are probably other ways to get the owl cub, but we haven't tried them ourselves. You can tell Krolla that you don't want to play because it's too cruel, and you'll take the cub with you. Now you either have to give the goblin 500 gold, intimidate him or persuade him. Once again, Baldur's Gate 3 offers you a variety of options.

Welcome the Owlbear Cub to Your Camp

Now go to your camp and sleep there for a few nights. After three or four long rests, the owlbear cub will appear. Again, decide the option to lure it closer and prove your luck with the dice (wisdom roll of 10). The cute little animal still needs a little time to thaw out properly. But even if it is scared off and chased away by your campmates, it will keep coming back to you in the nights that follow. Always behave in a friendly and helpful manner and the owlbear cub will soon lose its shyness so that you can always meet and stroke it when you visit the camp.
