Most players don't understand how musical instruments work because when their character picks up one, they start playing terribly. So next, you will learn how to play musical instruments in Baldur's Gate 3.
To achieve the desired result, you will need to be a bard class or complete a quest, after which your character will be able to play one. Also, there is a feat that you can pick to play. We'll talk about these two options below, so read on.
To play music in BG3, you will need to have at least one point in Musical Instrument Proficiency. You can get this by playing as the Bard class or by helping Alfira to finish her song.

So, from the start of the game, when you create your character, you will have the opportunity to choose the Bard class, and this is what will provide you with the ability to play instruments in the future. You will immediately receive a Musical Instrument Proficiency point, as well as an instrument to play. There are several musical instruments in the game that you can use, namely:
The Feat that ensures successful instrument playing is Performer. If you don't want to play as Bard class, we recommend getting this feat. You can get it if you level up any class to level 4, and here's what effect it has:
“You gain Musical Instrument Proficiency, and your Charisma increases by 1, to a maximum of 20”
The second method is more interesting because you can get an effect that allows you to play musical instruments regardless of your class and feat. To complete this, you will need to visit Druid Grove and find Alfira, who will play a song at the following coordinates: X:285, Y:495. Just take the lute and help her finish the song. It won't be easy, and we recommend saving the game because you will need to pass 2 Performance checks. If you successfully complete this, you will get the musical instrument, as well as the effect with the following advantage:
“You know how to play a variety of musical instruments and are able to entertain a crowd with them”
This way, you will master Musical Instrument Proficiency and be able to use playing instruments for your own purposes. And while you are here, make sure to check our guide on how to solve the Ancient Altar puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3.
