Baldur’s Gate 3 has many achievements to offer for hardcore RPG fans and casual players alike. One of the rarest ones, with only 3.1% of players getting it on Steam, is Penny Pincher. If you’re struggling to get the Penny Pincher achievement in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ve come to the right place, as we’ve found a simple solution.
Surprisingly, this achievement is elementary and not time-consuming at all, despite its rarity among Steam players. Follow the steps below to achieve the desired outcome.
BG3: How to Get the Penny Pincher Achievement
To get the achievement, you need to defeat Gerringothe Thorm, the Keeper of Coin in Tollhouse of Act 2 without her using gold against you. For this, instead of fighting her, you will need to persuade her. This is the easiest way to do it, as it requires no fighting whatsoever.
Firstly, you must make your way to the Tollhouse, which is located at X: -111, Y: -85, southwest of Reithwin Town. Upon entering the Tollhouse and ascending to the upper floors, you’ll have to initiate dialogue with the Keeper of Coin, after which you’ll have your first set of dialogue options. You have to choose the first option, where your character will ask the following:
“Who are you?”
Upon receiving the answer, you’ll be presented with your next set of options. In our case, the best option is the fourth one:
“Toss the creature a gold piece”.
She will ask for more gold, but for this to work, you don’t need to give it to her. As soon as you receive the third set of options, you’ll have to pick the third option, which is:
“I don’t hand out so much gold for so little in return”
To which the creature will reply:
“You may pass the river. But first you must pay.”
To complete the dialogue and get the achievement, use your class-specific options first, like Monk’s Persuasion:
“The happiness gold grants is temporary at best. Do not let your need for gold trap you here.“
and when you get the next set, choose the first option, Persuasion, again, but this time it will be not class-specific:
“Says who? Seems to me there’s no one here to oversee you.”
After this, the Keeper of Gold will proceed to have a mental breakdown and destroy herself by exploding. This will grant you the achievement, and you’ll be able to loot her later.
