In the survival RPG Nightingale, the portals and Realm Caps are crucial parts of the gameplay. We'll explain how these two features work in our guide.
Highlights:
Portals are structures that you can build early in the game, allowing you to travel to different worlds. Together with Realm Cards, you can enter specific realms to search for various resources and enemies.
You can open portals by using the necessary Realm Cards, which determine the portal's destination. Portals can be kept open or closed, depending on whether you want to maintain the connection. Additionally, you can set whether a new realm is private or publicly accessible to everyone. If you completely close a portal, the used cards are consumed, and you'll need to use new ones.
You can construct a basic portal using 10 pieces of lumber, 7 ingots, 3 wires, and a Synchronous Lotus. You can obtain the Lotus either very rarely in chests or from a Fae Tower scattered throughout the world. If you defeat all the enemies in the tower and reach the top, a chest with the Lotus awaits you, and in the middle of the area, you'll find a Realm Transmutator.
Tip: Build your portal outdoors where you have plenty of space. As you progress further in the game, you'll build more portals to gain access to various worlds without constantly needing to craft new Realm Cards. This way, you can create a series of portals, each leading to different locations.
With a Realm Transmutator, similar to a regular portal, you can use Realm Cards. However, here you can only use a minor realm card to adjust your current world. This can have various effects, such as an increased drop chance for essences or an extended duration of food effects.
In addition to the portals you can build yourself, there are randomly scattered Fae Portals in the world of Nightingale, which lead to Vaults (a type of dungeon). These can be operated like a regular portal using your cards through the Realm Card Machine.
You can either find Realm Cards in the world or craft them at an Enchanter's Focus. They serve as your tickets to the various worlds of Nightingale, and there are three versions of them:
You can obtain the blueprints for Minor Cards by completing various tasks and challenges, but you can also find them in chests or purchase them from essence merchants. The blueprints for Biome and Major Realm Cards can only be purchased or obtained by completing Sites of Power.
Afterward, you can craft them at an Enchanter's Focus (workbench). In most cases, you'll need paper, ink, and essences as materials. For the workbench, you'll only need lumber, ingots, and glass.
Once you've built your portal and created a few Realm Cards, you can open the gateway to a new world. Simply go to your portal and interact with it. Here, you'll insert a Biome Card and a Major Card to decide which conditions should occur in the world.
When you select two cards, you'll see all the details of your selected cards on the right side of your screen. The red number at the top left corner of the card represents the world level, and at the bottom left of the screen, you can adjust the difficulty level of the realm. The higher the difficulty level, the higher the level of all enemies in the realm, but they also drop more essences.
For instance, if you use Level 100 cards, on normal difficulty, a portal with Level 100 enemies will open. On easy difficulty, enemies might be around Level 60, while on hard difficulty, they could be as high as Level 240.
