In the sandbox survival game Sons of the Forest, you’ll have to take the right precautions to ensure your survival. This includes starting a campfire, which offers you different advantages. This guide will explain to you how you can build a campfire.
Good reasons to build a campfire: One of the most important reasons to start a campfire is for cooking food to counteract hunger. In addition, a campfire is also an easy-to-build source of light. Also, by burning dead cannibals in the campfire, you can obtain bones, an essential resource. In winter, it is probably also used to obtain heat.
Build the Simple (Camp-) Fire in Sons of the Forest

What you need
In order to make a fire, you will need to gather the following materials:
- At least 2 sticks
- At least 1 leaf
- Lighter
Optional:
- At least 6 stones
- At least 2 firewood
How to Get the Materials
Sticks and Leaves: Sticks are obtained by breaking bushes or cutting down trees, passively collecting the leaves.
Lighter: You have the lighter from the beginning.
Optional:
Stones: You can easily collect stones from the ground.
Firewood: You make firewood from a tree trunk that you get when you cut down a tree. Then you have to split the tree trunk lengthwise with an axe and then chop the pieces crosswise with the axe into 3 more pieces. You can always tell by the red line on the wood.

Build the Simple (Camp-) Fire
After gathering all the materials, take a stick from your inventory and look at the ground. You will see a small symbol consisting of two strokes, whereupon you break the stick with a left click and place it on the ground. Repeat this with the second stick to create a simple campfire. By holding down the E key and a leaf, you can now start the fire. If the fire seems to go out, just throw some leaves into the fire and it will start again.
Important: The sticks are somewhat hidden in the inventory; you have to turn to the right in the inventory to get them displayed.
Upgrade Your Campfire
Upgrade your campfire with 7 stones that you place around the burning wood, on the markers. By doing so, you improve your campfire by one level.
To improve the fire again, put two pieces of firewood into the fire by left-clicking on it. With the additional firewood, your campfires’ stability improves.
Building a Fire in the House – Braving the Weather
If you have already built a house so that you can defy the weather, you can also build a campfire there so that it will not be extinguished by upcoming rain.
Here’s how: Use an axe to cut a hole in the floor of your finished house and place the campfire there, as described above.
