In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a seemingly endless number of main and side quests await you, one of which bears the mysterious name Whirly Swirly Things.
Here's the deal: Sooner or later, your journey will take you to the Korok Forest. One of the annoying little seeds has a very special mission for you. In this guide, we'll show you how to start and complete the Whirly Swirly Things side quest in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
If you don’t know exactly where to start looking, check out our interactive map or the guide to the locations of all shrines. If you are looking for a specific shrine, you can easily find it, as well as other helpful guides, in our sorted guide overview. |
As mentioned before, for the Whirly Swirly Things side quest you will have to travel to the Korok Forest. There, right next to the shrine, you'll meet Kula. The Korok tells you that his friend must have seen a monstrously large vortex, somewhere in a place where there is a lot of water. Kula desperately wants to see this vortex for himself, if only in a picture. After Kula finishes talking, the quest Whirly Swirly Things starts.
Your task now is to take a picture of the ominous vortex and show it to Kula. So be sure to complete the shrine inside the Korok Forest so you can quickly return here.
To take a picture of the massive vortex, you'll need to head to West Necluda. It's best to travel to the Cartographer Tower there if you've already activated it. Get catapulted into the air and glide to the coordinates 0462, 2252, 039. There you'll find a small sky island in the shape of a water lily, from which you'll have a great view of the large water vortex below. The perfect location for a photo. You can also take a picture of the whirlpool from the shore, you can find the exact location in the screenshot. Take your picture and return to Kula.
The little Korok is thrilled with your photo, but immediately reports another vortex, somewhere in the sand. Your new task is to find the second sand vortex and take a picture of it, too.
Sand whirls can be found - not surprisingly - in the southwest of Hyrule, namely in the Gerudo Desert. There are even many such vortices, namely in the form of quicksand whirlpools. You can find one of them in the eastern Gerudo Ruins (see screenshot). The best place to start your journey is Siwakama Shrine. If you haven't activated it yet, travel to a point as close to the northeastern edge of Gerudo as possible.
To take your photo, you can either walk to the place on the map or climb on one of the pillars that you can see from the shrine.
Several quicksand vortices are swirling between the pillars. Be careful, though, because a Moldora is making its rounds between the pillars. The giant monster is attracted by vibrations on the sand, including footsteps.
Once you have your photo, return to Kula and show him the picture. As a reward for your efforts, the little Krog will give you 5 Endura Carrots. That was the side quest Whirly Swirly Things in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
