Agony Mode is one of the many fulfilled Kickstarter goals planned for the upcoming survival horror game, Agony. Fans have been desperately pining for more details on how this game mode works. Well, the wait if over, everyone! Madmind Studio has recently updated their Kickstarter with a post explaining the ins and outs of Agony Mode.

How the Agony Mode in Agony works

Once you have reached a certain point in the main game, Agony Mode will be activated. The mode will be displayed in the main menu. Select it, and you will spawn in a special designated area that is split into two separate zones. These zones are uniquely designed and are just as brutal as you would expect. There are also additional features included within each of the two zones: entrance/exit gates and two mini-games labelled survival and time mode.

Once you have completed a goal, you are allowed to access one of the special levels. These levels are randomised and will always contain a start and end point with explorable areas and a secret locationin between. Once you have reached the end, you can choose to descend deeper into Hell or decide to leave the level. If you do exit, make sure you keep the items you have collected in your possession.

As the game progresses, you’ll see a difference in the difficulty levels of gameplay. Agony will now challenge you with an increase in the number of enemies and various new areas. Things only grow more intense the longer you survive in Agony Mode. Opportunities for rare rewards and the ability to score top rankings on the leaderboard are being mapped out as we speak.

Survival Mode

Survival mode is all about your survival instinct. The main goal is to survive for as long as you can while holding your own against your biggest enemy – Hell itself. It’s a good idea to take your time and explore the deepest depths of Hell to get the full experience. To add to your pain and suffering, you will need to perform designated tasks in this mode.

These tasks need to be completed to progress. They are utterly random and will include various quests from looking for certain items to visiting specific rooms. However, be warned, they become increasingly difficult with each level.

Time Mode

As you may have probably guessed from the name, this mode is about all being quick. With only a small fraction of time allowed, you must travel as far as you possibly can into Hell. Remember that in this mode you are not required to complete any special tasks and must simply find your way around. However, it won't be as easy as it sounds; there are several demonic forces at work making it their duty to prevent a smooth run through.

If the clock is ticking, make sure to collect special items along the way that award you additional time. It would be a good idea to take that extra time to explore as much of Hell as you can. There are so many nooks and crannies that could be hiding monsters and mysteries. The time limit will make you apprehensive at first, but with every step you take, you’ll see the path to victory gleam brighter and brighter.
