A few days ago, a now-deleted document surfaced in the course of the Activision takeover by Microsoft, in which Microsoft states that Bohemia is developing DayZ 2. But this is not official.
This is what's going on: Microsoft wants to buy Activision-Blizzard, which should be known by now. However, the FTC has now disclosed a document showing Microsoft's statement. It was about studios that are interesting for Microsoft, including Bohemia Interactive. According to Microsoft's report, not only Arma Reforger and Arma 4 are in development, but also DayZ 2.
It has come to light via Reddit that a now-deleted document from 2021 in the case of Microsoft contains details about potential studio acquisitions. So there was also a section on Bohemia Interactive, who are currently working on Arma Reforger, Arma 4, and DayZ 2. DayZ itself has been in Game Pass since May 2020, and Bohemia at least seems happy with the performance of the console Game Pass.
While Arma Reforger and Arma 4 have already been officially announced, there is no sign of DayZ 2.
There is no official confirmation from Bohemia Interactive about the development status of DayZ 2. It is also not officially known whether DayZ 2 is in development or planning stage. Our contacts at Bohemia, who are directly involved in the development of DayZ, cannot confirm any information.
Via the german magazine GameStar, there is only an unclear statement from PR manager Pavel Křižka, which is also shared by our contacts:
"While we are expanding our focus in terms of the possibilities of the DayZ game, the brand and the team itself, we can't offer too many details at the moment.
There are numerous projects that Bohemia Interactive's development teams are currently working on, but these will only be officially announced when the time is right."
So if DayZ 2 is indeed in development, it's in such an early stage of development that Bohemia itself doesn't want to make a statement. It could still be in the active planning phase or merely lying on some desk as a possible future project. But it could just as well be that the plan for DayZ 2 still existed in 2021 but was then put on hold or discontinued altogether.
So we will have to wait and see when and if Bohemia officially announces DayZ 2, and that could possibly take years.
