The development of the survival game DayZ will continue in 2023 and beyond. In a livestream, the developers gave a first preview of upcoming new content in this and the next years.
What’s going on? During the live stream introducing the new DayZ update 1.20, the developers also talk on the side about changes that will only appear later this year or beyond. Among other things, they reveal that there will once again be changes to Chernarus and Livonia.
What content will be released for DayZ in the future?
How many updates are coming? In 2023, there should once again be four to five major content updates. The developers have been successfully following this release schedule since 2021, so you can expect new content about every 3 months.
This is the focus in 2023: The developers have not yet published the official roadmap for this year and will not do so until February at the earliest. Nevertheless, the team is already giving a preview of what content will be coming to DayZ fans in the coming months. The focus in 2023 will be more on new cosmetic items. That means less new weapons or mechanics, but more clothing and equipment. In the upcoming version 1.120, you will get carnival masks.
In the stream, the developers also talk briefly about Chernarus and that there are some rebuilding measures coming up here. Adam Francu, who is responsible for the design of the maps Livonia, Chernarus and Namalsk, gives further hints. Thus, the area to be reworked and a large flat area in the north of the map. In an interview of YouTuber TopeRec with Bohemia Interactive, it already emerged that the North-West Airfield (NWA) is meant.
The NWA has already revised for the first time a few years ago. At that time, many new buildings were introduced, and the Airfield was generally enlarged.
What content will be released for DayZ after 2023?
Fortunately, the developers confirmed that DayZ support and development will continue well beyond 2023. They still have a lot of ideas that they want to add to the game, and there is still some missing content from DayZ Legacy (everything before 0.63). In addition, we know that Livonia will also continue to be supplied with updates, in addition to Chernarus.
What about helicopters? The developers are keeping a low profile when it comes to flying machines, motorcycles and the like. The map is not yet ready for two-wheelers, they say in an interview with TopeRec, and helicopters are not a priority. Nevertheless, the signs are good that helicopters and motorcycles will appear in 2024. The time for motorcycles is 3 to 6 months away, and the situation is similar for helicopters.
So if the development team starts implementing said motor vehicles in mid-2023, they could appear in the following year. A roadmap from Arma Reforger gives a solid hint about helicopters in DayZ and the further development of the vehicle engine. The military simulation runs on the same engine as DayZ and will soon get its first helicopters.
