Joe Piepiora, Associate Game Director, was recently surprised with the statement in an interview about Diablo 4, that you can't grind endlessly in Blizzard's new Action RPG, but that this time there will be a real final boss. And this one is supposed to be a real challenge.
Even though in the predecessor Diablo 3 everything was theoretically done by playing through a Nephalem portal at level 150, you could still continue to grind endlessly afterward and collect Paragon level after Paragon level. There won't be such an endless grind in Diablo 4, but there will be a final boss that ends the game.
As soon as you reach level 50 with your character, you will receive four additional paragon points for every level up. At level 100, however, the game ends for good. This means you can collect a total of 200 Paragon points. After that, you can only improve your character with equipment or glyphs.
Instead of spending your time in an endless grind, Piepiora says you should find out how far you can push your level 100 character.
Diablo 4 is not meant to be played forever, Piepiora said. Even though the challenges in the Nightmare dungeons scale beyond level 100 and get harder and harder, there should be a final capstone.
" Es gibt also Kreaturen, die auf immer höheren Schwierigkeitsgraden (jenseits von Stufe 100) kämpfen werden, aber das sind Inhalte, bei denen du dich selbst anspornst, um zu sehen, wie weit du mit deinem Build kommen kannst, anstatt zu versuchen, einen endlosen Grind an Belohnungen zu erreichen, wenn die Zeit über Stufe 100 hinausgeht."
Piepiora talks about a final boss in the interview, which is said to be "extraordinarily, extraordinarily challenging." The fight against the yet-unknown boss itself won't earn you any significant rewards. This is because to be able to win the fight at all, you already need the best equipment imaginable.
"Players that reach level 100 are going to have an extremely difficult time on this boss encounter. And the expectation is that you take your class, you understand your build, you've maximized everything you possibly can about it, and you have learned encountered very well. And that's going to be the way that you can maybe take it down." Thus Piepiora.
