The growing impatience for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is palpable everywhere, but now a trusted leaker has revealed the true status of GTA6's release and its PC version.
What happened? Rockstar Games has not made an official announcement for GTA 6 to date. Users must differentiate between seemingly genuine and visibly false leaks, which is difficult due to wishful thinking. Amid all these speculations, one of the most renowned Rockstar insiders, "Tez2," speaks out. In a discussion in the GTA forum, he tempers the expectations of users who have been positive about the PC release of GTA 6.
A year ago, Tez2 was optimistic that GTA 6 would release on PC the same day as on consoles, but the situation seems to have changed. Tez2 claims to have learned from Rockstar employees that the PC version internally has more bugs than the console versions. Rockstar, aiming to avoid a debacle like the PC releases of "Star Wars Jedi Survivor" or "The Last of Us Part 1," is being cautious with GTA 6, one of the most anticipated games in recent times.
Tez2 says multiple sources confirm that developers expect a later release for the PC version, with the extra time being used to fix the bugs. However, how much later a PC version of GTA 6 will be released is unclear.
Did the 2022 leak have an impact? Often, the creative direction decides to take a new route due to leaks, but this is not the case for GTA 6. In an Earnings Call, the CEO of Rockstar Games parent company Take 2 Interactive stated:
"(...) the leak will certainly not influence the development or anything similar."
Historically, Rockstar has released console versions of its blockbuster games first, followed by PC versions. The PC version of GTA 6 will likely also be released after the consoles.
Game | Console Release | PC Release |
GTA III | October 23, 2001 | May 21, 2002 |
GTA Vice City | October 29, 2002 | May 13, 2003 |
GTA San Andreas | October 26, 2004 | June 7, 2005 |
GTA IV | April 29, 2008 | December 2, 2008 |
GTA V | September 17, 2013 | April 14, 2014 |
Due to its current technical situation, GTA 6 could be released on PC several months to a year later. There's evidence for this, as Red Dead Redemption 2 only made its way to PC after more than a year.
