Sons of the Forest: How to Multiplayer

Survival is better together than alone – that also holds true in Sons of the Forest. Those who would like to play the horror survival game with friends can let off steam in the multiplayer mode.

What is it about? Sons of the Forest can be played both alone and in multiplayer mode. We’ll explain how multiplayer works in the horror-survival game.

Sons of the Forest: Start A Multiplayer Game – All you need to know

Before you start a multiplayer game in Sons of the Forest, you should consider the following things:

  • Single and multiplayer modes work separately. So you can’t just invite your friends into an original solo game state of yours.
  • A multiplayer lobby can accommodate a maximum of eight human players.
  • Your party can recruit both Kelvin and Virginia as AI companions. Both characters exist only once, however, so you can have a maximum of ten.
  • Only the host of a game can save and load your shared score. How you can change the host to get around this problem is explained in a separate guide:

How do I start a multiplayer game? Basically, there is not much to consider when you want to set up a multiplayer game in Sons of the Forest. Once you are in the main menu, simply click on the Multiplayer button.

Now you can choose whether you want to host a game yourself or join an existing match. If you choose the first option, you can set the name of the server and the number of players in the corresponding menu. You can also decide whether the game should be public or whether you only want to allow friends to join.

Now click on Start to see a list of all players who have joined your game on the next screen. Here you can invite friends directly and then start the game. Friends can also join your game later.

If you want to join an existing game, you can either wait for an invitation from a host or choose a match yourself from the list of existing lobbies. The list can be filtered so that you can quickly find matches of friends, for example.

Will it get easier soon? Yes, in the future there will be dedicated servers for Sons of The Forest and players will be able to play on the save anytime without the need for a host.
