The powerful Helldusk armor set from Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot going for it. Here you’ll find out which cool perks it gives you and where you can find the individual set pieces.
Here’s the deal: The Helldusk armor set of Baldur’s Gate 3 has a special position. It breaks the rule established by the D&D role-playing game that heroic fashion cannot be combat-ready and visually chic or harmonious at the same time. You’ll notice this immediately when you take a closer look at your “stats-focused” BG3 hero. Doesn’t he or she look like a walking pile of colorful dirty laundry?
Exactly. But the Helldusk armor set puts an end to that, because it wraps your hero from head to toe in massively resistant and good-looking clothes. On top of that, it grants you some great perks that you can put to good use, especially in the third act of the Forgotten Realms adventure. Below you’ll learn all the details about the Helldusk armor set, as well as where to find each piece.
This is What the Helldusk Armor Set can do
Before you run off to get the Helldusk armor set, let’s take a quick look at why you should bother in the first place. For this, we’ll take a look at the stats of each piece and explain the perks associated with them.
Helldusk Helmet
- The helmet of the set grants Infernal Vision. It allows you to see 12 meters in both natural and magical darkness. In addition, enemies cannot cause you Blind status.
- You gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against spells.
- Attackers can no longer land critical hits. Yeah, you read that correctly.
Helldusk Armour (Chest)
- Armor Class: 21
- When you wear this piece of armor, you are automatically considered proficient in its use.
- Infernal Retribution: After a successful Magic saving throw on your part, the attacker gains Burning status for three rounds.
- Prime Aegis of Fire: You are resistant to fire by wearing the breastplate and cannot be burned. You take 3 points less damage from all sources.
Helldusk Gloves
- Thanks to Infernal Acuity, you get a bonus point each on magic attack rolls and magic saving throws.
- Infernal Touch adds 1 to 6 points of fire damage to your weapon attacks, while your unarmed attacks deal 1 to 6 points of necrotic damage.
- Strength saving throws are favored by +1.
Helldusk Boots
- Steadfast: Enemy magic attacks or actions no longer affect your position. You also ignore the effects of “difficult terrain”.
- Infernal Evasion allows you to use a reaction after a failed saving throw.
As you can see, the Helldusk armor set is a wardrobe no hero of Faerûn can say “no” to, especially because of its powerful effects. It’s obvious that you want to get your hands on this extremely rare and strong body armor. So let’s move on to the exact locations of the individual parts.
Finding All Parts of the Helldusk Armor Set
To get all the pieces of the Helldusk armor set, you need to unlock the Orpheus quest line (“Free Orpheus”). This quest is automatically unlocked when you leave the Astral Plane at the beginning of the third act. The Orpheus quest ensures that you can’t miss the individual Helldusk armor pieces. Of course, you still have to get them first.
A related piece of good news is that the set can be found almost completely in one and the same place. So there is no need to travel half of Faerûn again. Your main destination is the “House of Hope”, which can only be reached from one specific place, the “Devil’s Fee” store in the lower town of Baldur’s Gate. Take a look at the screenshot below.
To be precise, you enter the House of Hope through a portal on the second floor of the Devil’s Fee, but the gate must first be ritually opened. To perform this ritual, of course, you need several ingredients, five in number. You can get them by getting the “Infernal Marble” from the main chest on the second floor.
After that, return to Helsik and convince her that you absolutely have to get into the House of Hope. She will then explain the ritual and give you the five ingredients. However, it is also possible to get the needed items from containers in Devil’s Fee. Astarion’s lock-picking skills are very helpful here.
Get the Helldusk Helmet
Once in the House of Hope, you’ll find yourself in a circular main room. In the picture below you can see a detailed map of the building. Go to the center to the feast hall and then north to the secret wall marked on the map. There you will need to pass a perception roll to interact with the inactive Infernal Gem.
Now it gets a little silly: You have to interact with the stone twice and pass dice tests both times. The first is based on Wisdom and requires at least a 10; the second is based on Arcane and, well, requires no less than 20.
Here, of course, it’s a good idea to make use of the quick save and quick load features. If you succeed in the last roll, the secret wall is raised and a treasure chamber becomes visible. In it you can capture 666 gold pieces and the helmet of the Helldusk Set.
Get the Helldusk Gloves
Getting the gloves is part of the Orpheus quest mentioned above, because in order to get them you have to disable the incubus Haarlep. The incubus is in the ladies’ room (boudoir) of the house. In order to get in there, talk to the archivist and deceive him in the conversation; pretend to be the Infernal Judge.
As a result, you will gain access to the boudoir and you can wait on the spot for Raphael, whom you already know. You can probably guess it already: Haarlep is an anagram of the name Raphael. So your opponent is more or less Raphael, who has the Helldusk gloves on his body. Accordingly, you know what to do after defeating him.
Get the Helldusk Armor
With the chest part of the Helldusk armor set, it is similar to the gloves, because it is located on the body of the other, the original incubus, Raphael. Moreover, obtaining this armor piece is once again intertwined with the Orpheus quest. To get it, you must first free the Hope spirit (also in the House of Hope), which requires the Orhpic Hammer.
Once you’ve crossed this off your to-do list, make your escape through the ritual portal in the foyer. Or at least try to, because the “good” Raphael will know how to prevent you from escaping. Needless to say, the boss fight against Raphael is even a touch harder than the one against Haarlep. After your success, you loot Raphael’s body and then possess the set chest piece.
Get the Helldusk Boots
You probably remember that Lord Enver Gortash, a politician raised by a certain devil, “guested” in the House of Hope and escaped from there. Well, Gortash unfortunately escaped not only with a crown, but also with the Helldusk boots in his luggage.
And that means that the mighty boots are in Wyrm’s Rock. Or more concretely, in the fortress of Wyrm’s Rock, in Gortash’s personal quarters (see picture below).
So travel there and enter the fortress. From the auditorium, go up the stairs to the second floor. There is only one room there, Gortash’s quarters. In the back right corner of the room you’ll see a large chest and inside it, along with a Mindflayer parasite and a book, you’ll have the Helldusk boots you’ve been looking for. With these, you’ll have the entire Helldusk armor set.
