German English

Nere is a tough boss to beat in Baldur's Gate 3 because of his many minions. However, there is a way to kill Nere even without a fight.

Who is Nere? In Baldur's Gate 3, there is an evil Drow named Nere. The dark-skinned elf has been buried in the Grymforge, where he will contact you via "larval radio" as soon as you approach the giant pile of rubble. Almost pitifully, Nere begs you to free him from his stone prison. But as soon as the rubble is cleared out of the way, you're in for a nasty surprise.

Nere blames the gnome slaves for his predicament and pushes one of them into the surrounding lava. Depending on your reaction to this, Nere either continues the killing or begins to pester you suspiciously with questions. If you don't follow the dark path of the "Absolute" with your answers here, you will definitely have to fight Nere and his disciples as well as the commander. This guide will show you how to avoid this tough battle at a price.

How to Kill Nere in Baldur's Gate 3 Without a Fight

You probably already know what the problem with fighting Nere is: Almost all the Drow in the Grymforge draw their weapons at Nere's command and turn them against your party. On top of that, there are stronger opponents in the Drow ranks, like the commander, so you should have good tactics and equipment here.

However, if the difficulty level of this carnage gets on your nerves, you can alternatively use a simple trick; a trick with very interesting consequences. First load a saved game with Nere still crouching behind the pile of rubble. Then remove the rubble, for example by blasting it (smoke powder is hidden nearby) and quickly return to the center of the scene.

The poor gnome lady to the left has only a few seconds to live.

After a few seconds, Nere will start approaching you from the north. Quickly call up the area map and click on a waypoint on the right side of the screen (preferably a waypoint outside the Grymforge). By doing so, you'll escape from the conflict before it can move into the hot phase. From your new location, travel back to the Grymforge and go to your last position there.

A Pleasant Surprise: Nere is Dead

Instead of the conflict resuming here, you find a completely different scene. For Nere suddenly lies dead on the ground and almost all the other Drow have disappeared from the face of the earth, as if the Gnomes and the Drow had ionized each other. So that's it, you can now loot Nere and go your way.

Here's only a part of the minions that make the fight against Nere a challenge.

Great, isn't it? Well, not quite. As mentioned at the beginning, you have to accept that Thulla's quest "Save the Gnomes in the Grymforge" will fail for the fight you skipped by trick. As a result, you will miss out on Beldron's gold reward and will have to come to terms with the fact that you failed in front of Thulla.
