The entrance to the vault where you need to search for the legendary item is in the Tolna’s Office. Below, we’ll show you how to complete the puzzle and get into the Karsus Vault to get The Annals of Karsus.
BG3: How to Find Tolna’s Office
During The Wizard of Waterdeep quest, go to Sorcerous Sundries. It is one of the largest buildings in the region located at the coordinates X:0, Y:-80.
When you get to the location, follow the next steps:
- On the first floor, at the end of the hall, you need to find and talk to the librarian Tolna. She will whisper to you that the entrance to the Karsus Vault is through her office.
- Go up to the second floor, and then ungroup and use Greater Invisibility so that you don’t have any troubles with the guards around.
- To the left of the portals you can see a metal door, which you need to lockpick and get inside.
- To the right of the entrance, on the shelves, you can find the Clasped Book. Interact with it to open a portal and enter it to get to the Sorcerous Vault.

BG3: How to Find the Annals of Karsus
After getting through the portal to the Sorcerous Vault, enter the Oak Door. Crossing the bridge, you will see another door, which you need to destroy or open. And now you have reached the puzzle with doors, after completing which you will receive the legendary book The Annals of Karsus. Follow the step-by-step instructions below:
- When you enter the room with several doors, first go through the Silverhand.
- This will be followed by an identical room to the previous one, but the names of the doors are now changed. Now choose the door with the label Abjuration.
- Surprise! The room is identical again. Go through the ones marked Silver.
- Now you’re in a room with lightning, avoid it and go to the end of the room to pull the lever and activate the path to Karsus Vault.
- Head back to the entrance, where you’ll find another room with a door, but this time it’s dangerous. Jump to the door labelled Demon to avoid the damage.
- Once you get to the beginning, you will see that the Karsus door is open, and behind it there will be a corridor leading to the Karsus Vault.
