In Starfield, you will have to build your own outpost on the surface of the planet to farm resources. But for this, you will need energy, which can be obtained in different ways, but one of the most effective is a generator. So in this guide, we will show you how to use a fuel generator in Starfield.
In addition to having a generator to provide your outpost with energy, you also need to know how to power the generator itself. Follow our guide to learn the best way to power a generator in Starfield.
How to Build and Use a Fuel Generator in Starfield
You can place a fuel generator without any quantity limit at any of your outposts. With it, you can provide your outpost with 20 units of power. To build it, you need to have the following resources:
- Tungsten: 4
- Tau Grade Rheostat: 1
- Austenitic Manifold: 1
- Iso-centered Magnet: 1
Simply select the location where you will build it in the outpost construction view. If you are unable to do so and the Fuel Generator is highlighted in red, you will receive an error message explaining why you cannot do so. Usually, this problem is due to inappropriate placement, for example, if the generator is hanging above the ground or in contact with other buildings.

How to Use a Fuel Generator in Starfield
To power the Fuel Generator, you need Helium-3, so we recommend making it on a planet where you can get it. You will also need to build a Gas Storage next to the generator. To achieve this, you will need the following resources:
- Copper – 6
- Tungsten – 5
- Adaptive Frames – 3
The construction process is the same as for the Fuel Generator, but you need to place the Gas Storage next to it and connect them while in construction mode. Once you have done this, the generator will use the gas from the storage until it runs out. You can connect Helium-3 production to the storage to keep the generator running smoothly, and if you don’t have that option, just turn off the generator when you don’t need it to save Helium.
