In Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord you can earn money in many different ways and one of the most profitable is the workshops. In this guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about acquiring them, running them, making money & on top of that, we’ll show you which workshops are the best in Bannerlord.
Here’s what it’s all about: Buying a workshop in Bannerlord is a wonderful investment. After just a short time, the right workshop will bring you tons of Denars (money in Bannerlord). Not all stores are the same and the profit depends on various aspects. We’ll tell you now what these are and how you can find the best workshops in Bannerlord.
The Basics: What are Workshops & How do They Work
Workshops in Bannerlord are used to produce goods such as food, clothing, wine or weapons. You will only find workshops in the larger cities, because trade flourishes here. A city can have a maximum of four workshops, but never less than three! The produced goods are then sold to caravans, merchants and citizens, thus generating money.
How do you get a workshop? As mentioned above, you have to travel to one of the big cities of Calradia. Here you can buy the workshop from one of the NPCs in the list at the top of the screen. Optionally, you can visit the workshop in person and chat with the owner. Ask him boldly: “What’s the last price?” and pay like a decent citizen of Calradia. The store is yours and you only have to take care of the staff later!
The average price for a workshop is 12,000 to 18,000 denarii and depends on the wealth of the region and the type of store.
What workshops are available in Bannerlord?
- Blacksmith – weapons, armor & tools, made from iron ore & hardwood.
- Olive Press – Olive oil, made from olives.
- Brewery – Beer, made from wheat.
- Pottery – pottery (clay vessels), made from clay.
- Wine press – wine, made from grapes.
- Silversmith – jewelry, made from silver.
- Tannery – leather & leather armor, made from hides & linen.
- Wood Workshop – bows, arrows & shields, made from hardwood.
- Weaving workshop – clothing, made from wool.
- Velvet weaving – velvet cloth, made from cotton.
- Linen Weaving – linen cloth, made from flax.
Workshops function properly only when the surrounding villages of the city also produce the appropriate raw materials. A blacksmith without iron ore in the region will have to buy it at a high price, which will reduce your profit. So before buying a workshop, make sure that the required resources are available in the surrounding area or not!

The best workshops in Bannerlord 1.0 – Where to settle & What to choose
You have already taken the first step: You know which raw materials flow into the city and which need to be purchased. But before you finally decide on the store you want in the region, go through the following “I’ll drop this workshop” checklist:
- Is the city in active conflict or under threat of attack?
- Is the town on the edge of the map? Caravans are less likely to visit these cities.
- If you are part of a kingdom, don’t buy a workshop in the enemy’s city!
- Is a city under siege?
My Bannerlord Workshop is not Making Money, what can I do?
Whether a workshop really makes a profit or not does not depend on the good it produces. You have to consider when you bought your workshop. Has it only been yours since a conquest or has the city been recently besieged? If so, you will have to wait a few days. New raw materials have to be delivered first.
In addition, transport, connectivity and resource management play a major role. If your workshop is far away from the edge of the map, or you produce goods whose basic raw materials are not grown in the region.
This is how much a good store brings in: The best workshops in Bannerlord earn you around 200 denarii per day. You should discard a store if it does not generate any money. However, you have to be careful here, because shortly after a siege of the city, it can take a few days until the workshop can resume its work in a regulated manner.
We are curious: Which workshops do you usually buy up and have you had any problems with them so far? Vote.
