Unlike the katana or chainsaw, you can get the machete early in the game.

We’ll tell you the best news right at the beginning. You don’t need a shovel or a keycard to get the machete. You can pick up the melee weapon from the ground. Even if you have to walk quite far away from your starting point, it’s definitely worth it, because you can’t get a strong weapon any easier. Maybe you’ll be lucky and spawn right next to the machete.
The exact location of the machete in Sons of the Forest is pretty much in the middle of the island’s northern shore, as you can see from the mark on the map. The oversized knife is stuck in the sandy bottom, piercing the wall of a red inflatable boat.
Feel free to take a closer look there, because all sorts of useful things wash up on the beach, including food.

Even though it’s not one of the strongest weapons in Sons of the Forest, you should grab the machete. It’s an extremely powerful melee weapon that has a very good range and attack speed, as well as damage. Especially at the beginning of the game, when you are still relatively weak and vulnerable, the machete is the weapon of choice. Depending on the spawn, you can secure the machete as your first weapon and be well-equipped against all attackers immediately.
